I agree with you. I would love to see more positive news and I think “Peace broke out in downtown…” sounds like an excellent headline.

Of course social media has many benefits, however it seems the shorten headline blips of twitter and facebook (others too that I’m not familiar with) can just add to the unbalance view of the bigger picture.
Recently on FB a friend posted a picture of a hand painted sign saying something like turning on the radio and hearing about world peace. I had an exchange of comments and replies about it. I don’t think we will hear a news story starting with “Peace broke out in downtown — today”. Not because it couldn’t happen but because the news media would not cover it. Not the type of story to generate ratings. Shaking hands and hugging spreads more goodwill than punches and rock throwing. It apparently doesn’t generate the same level of ratings and likely would not be covered.
