I have a friend who is absolutely fabulous, which is why when I was invited to go to an early screening of the “Absolutely Fabulous” movie that opens in theaters on July 22, I knew she was the person I wanted to take as my date.
As soon as I sent her a text asking if she’d like to come with she was like, “Yes!!! I’d love to go.” I’m not even exaggerating, she was three exclamation marks worth of excited. Did it help that the screening involved free champagne and appetizers? Probably, but I think mostly she was excited to come and get her laugh on with me.
The screening was at the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema in San Francisco. The venue alone was worth taking a shower and leaving the house that day. Wait, did I just admit that I sometimes don’t take a shower or leave the house all day? Pretend you didn’t read that. It’s the kind of place where you can watch a movie while you drink and have dinner. Nice, right?
My friend and I are both fans of “Absolutely Fabulous” the television show which centers around the adventures of druggy, boozy, selfish and hilarious BFFs Edina and Patsy so I was pretty sure we’d get a laugh or two out of the film, but I wasn’t expecting much more than that. Well, I’m happy to report that the movie was funnier than I expected.
By the time we left the theater I was in a giggly giddy mood and I don’t think it was just because of the champagne. Nope, I think Edina and Patsy’s adventures had a lot to do with it.
I think what I love most about “Absolutely Fabulous” the show and the movie is the friendship that Edina and Patsy have. They are in it for keeps. You know that no matter how flawed they are as individuals, they have each other’s back and they genuinely love and like each other.
The rest of the world may not get them or see them as they see each other, but it’s OK because they are each other’s mirror.
Seeing yourself through the eyes of a girlfriend who loves you no matter what will make you feel beautiful every single time.
If you are in need of some laughs (and how could you not be considering all the crap going on in the world?), then I suggest you grab a girlfriend—preferably one who has your back and makes your feel like you are beautiful no matter what when you see yourself through her eyes—and go watch this movie with her.

So much fun. I don’t get to go to the movies very much so it felt like such a treat. Tomorrow I’m going to go see “Bad Moms” with another friend.
