DIY: Snowflakes Out of Toilet Paper Rolls

DIY toilet paper roll snowflakesSponsored_Post_Sign_thumb.pngMy eldest, who is five, wants to see snow up close and personal. We live in San Francisco, where the chances of getting snow in the winter are pretty darn slim. I’m hoping this is the year that we introduce her to the real deal, but in the meantime, I thought we could make some snowflakes out of toilet paper rolls just to give our home a wintry feel.

Toilet paper roll crafts are sort of a thing in our home because well, let’s face it we are not at a loss for empty rolls of toilet paper. Perhaps you’ve noticed the wreath in the photo above? We made that last year and updated it this year with a new coat of spray paint. You can make your own with this toilet paper roll wreath tutorial.

As for the snowflakes, they couldn’t be easier to make.

Supplies:

  • Empty rolls of toilet paper and paper towels. The more the merrier.
  • Scissors
  • Glue gun with glue sticks
  • Silver spray paint (optional: glitter spray paint because glitter makes everything better)

Directions:

  1. Remove all remnants of paper from the rolls, flatten the rolls, and cut into strips about 1” wide.
  2. Hot glue the pieces together to create a snowflake in whatever shape you like.
  3. Spray paint silver if desired. I spray painted ours silver and then added a coat of glitter spray paint over the silver as well.

This was a fun project to make with the help of my 5-year-old. She got super excited when I told her we would be making our own snowflakes and she did all the cutting herself. I’d say that she is pretty happy with the results.
