This week my family and I were invited to Arguello restaurant in the Presidio. The Presidio, which is now part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, was a military post for 218 years. It spans 1,491 acres and is visited by over 5 million people a year. There are residents, commercial tenants, museums, recreational activities and so much more to be enjoyed throughout. Truthfully, there is so much do, see and experience that it’s hard to concisely describe it, so let me just focus on Arguello for now.
Arguello is a Mexican food restaurant housed inside the Presidio Officers’ Club. Named after Commander Luis Antonio Arguello, who served in the Presidio from 1806 until 1822 and went on to become the first Mexican Governor of Alta California, it is one of acclaimed Chef Traci Des Jardins’ six restaurants in San Francisco.

In case you don’t know Traci Des Jardins (pictured with me in the last photo above) is kind of a BIG DEAL. She’s won ALL kinds of awards including the 2007 James Beard Foundation Award for Best Chef in the Pacific region, she beat Mario Batali on “Iron Chef America” in 2007 and won Esquire’s “Knife Fight” in 2014. Basically, she kicks some serious nalgas. I knew she would be at Arguello when we were there and I was excited to meet her and expected to be blown away by the food, but I had no idea I would be so blown away by Traci herself. She’s kind, approachable, relatable and puts you instantly at ease. Loved her!
As for the food? We had carnitas and chile verde chicken tacos with a side of calabacitas. So GOOD! Honestly, I eat chicken so much that it is really hard for me to get excited about it, but I went back for seconds of those chile verde tacos because OMAIGA they were good. And the corn tortillas? AH-MAIZE-ING! (You see what I did right there?) They’re made right on the premises, which means they are transformed from humble little balls of masa into flat rounds of fantabulousness just moments before you gobble them up. Oh, and lest I forget to warn you about the margaritas: you’re gonna want more than one so get you a designated driver or Uber/Lyft it on up when you visit.

Jim, if you’d like to leave me your link, I can add it for you. For some reason, you can’t see the linky, but I can. I just added one link and I’m hoping that fixes it.

Lisa, I’m sorry. I don’t know why it won’t show for anyone but me. If you want, you can leave me the link and I will add it for you. I just added one so maybe it will fix itself.

I just added your link. Love the picture BTW. This is the second week that the Linky doesn’t load for other people even though I can see it on my end. Apologies for that.
