I live in a world full of curls. Gloriously gorgeous curls. Curls that swirl and twirl; curls that bounce and flounce; curls that get tangled and must be untangled. These curls call attention to themselves because of their beauty, but they also need attention to stay beautiful.
Curls are lovable, tangles not so much and yet they go together like—well, like curls and tangles. Fortunately, for my girls, I’ve lived with curls for as long as I can remember and I know how to keep the curls and get rid of the tangles with as little hassle as possible. It’s not that hard when you have a little help.
I never try to detangle my girls’ hair without help. Why? Because it’s a painful, tedious process that will end in tears and not just theirs. No, I know I need help so I use products like JOHNSON’S® NO MORE TANGLES® line, to help me get tangles out and to maintain my girls’ curls tangle-free.
The NO MORE TANGLES® treatment for us starts at bath time. My curly haired cuties get their hair washed with NO MORE TANGLES® Thick and Curly baby shampoo and conditioner. Once the shampoo/conditioner combo has had a chance to do its magic and I’ve rinsed it out, I rub a small amount of NO MORE TANGLES® Leave-in Conditioner between the palms of my hands and then work it through my daughters’ curls before brushing their hair out and making sure I leave them tangle-free. I use a vent brush to brush out their tangles, some people prefer using a comb, but I’ve always favored the vent brushes. Once the tangles are gone, we’re done because as the name states leave-in conditioner does not need to be rinsed out.
Now, between hair washings we have to battle the tangles too and that’s when I use the NO MORE TANGLES® Detangling Spray on their dry hair before brushing. I spray it generously all over their hair to tackle their tangles. I like it for a few reasons which include: it really does help detangle hair, also the moisture in it helps reactivate my girls’ curls and leaves them with nice bouncy curls instead of a brushed out frizzy hair (if you have curly hair and have ever brushed you hair while dry you know exactly what I’m talking about).
I want my girls to grow up loving their curls, feeling like every single day is a good hair day and never dreading the upkeep. There is so much curl bashing in the world and it’s not OK. I hear too many grown women talk smack about their curls and that’s just not right. Curls are to be celebrated and flaunted! I refuse to ever complain or say something disparaging about my daughters’ curly hair or their hair care.
Not to toot my own curly-headed horn, but I think I’m doing a good job because I constantly compliment their hair and I never make is seem like a chore to wash it, brush it or keep it tangle-free. Plus, I’m showing them at an early age what kind of tools they’ll need to keep that gorgeous hair of theirs happy.
