The holidays are amongst us and we’re having company for dinner. We realized we don’t have enough chairs (or space) for everyone at our table. At least not enough grown-up sized chairs, but we do have enough space for everyone if we bring in a $20 kids’ table and chair set normally used for crafts.
Now I’m not crazy about having a separate table for kids. I didn’t grow up eating at a kids’ table and I’m a strong believer that the ages should mix, but we need the space and this table will be right by our regular table so the kids will still be able to interact with the adults. In an effort to make the table feel a tad more special I decided to spruce it up for the holidays.
Step 1: I thoroughly cleaned the table and chairs. Then I used blue painter’s tape from Lowe’s to help me color within the lines.
Step 2: I painted the top of the table and the top of the seats with chalkboard paint.
It took about 3 coats for me to be happy with the results and move on.
Step 3: I used wood stain to color the wood (2 coats) and then sealed it with a clear gloss finish.
And the finished result looks a little something like this…
I dig it and the kids dig it, too!
Wishing you and yours a very happy holiday season!

Oh yeah, I’ve been up to all sorts of DIY nonsense. My husband is about to ban chalkboard paint.
