Hola Chulas y Chulos! My chancla and I have been gallivanting in SoCal this week where chanclas are like the footwear of choice, but we still had time to put together your weekly dose of The Flying Chancla Report.
- If you’ve been missing Mario Kreutzberger AKA “Don Francisco” since the final episode of “Sabado Gigante” aired last year, you’ll be happy to know that he’s coming back to TV. It’s true. Spanish-language television just hasn’t been the same without him (I guess) and Telemundo seems to have offered him a deal that he simply could not refuse. The deal includes “the launch of a joint production company to develop and produce original content and formats for U.S. Hispanics and international audiences across multiple platforms, and a new role as senior news correspondent.”
- Coexist, a company in the UK, intends to create an official “period policy,” which will allow women to take time off when their menstrual pain is rearing its ugly crampy head. The director of the company, Bex Baxter, says…
I have managed many female members of staff over the years and I have seen women at work who are bent over double because of the pain caused by their periods. Despite this, they feel they cannot go home because they do not class themselves as unwell.
And this is unfair. At Coexist we are very understanding. If someone is in pain – no matter what kind – they are encouraged to go home. But, for us, we wanted a policy in place which recognizes and allows women to take time for their body’s natural cycle without putting this under the label of illness.
Nice! The only problem I can foresee is that the company is made up of mostly women (24 out of 34 employees are female) and you know how women’s cycles tend to sync up. There might be days when hardly anyone shows up.
- I’m cracking up over this commercial that Benicio del Toro did on behalf of Heineken. It’s pretty funny. Wait for the punch line at the end.
This is the first time that Benicio del Toro acts as a brand spokesperson. You can checkout some behind the scenes details about the bilingual campaign and why del Toro decided to do it (other than money because cha-ching).ALSO READ: Wanna See Me in a Commercial?
- Did you know that actor Freddie Prinze Jr, husband of Sarah Michelle Gellar and son of the late and great comic and actor Freddie Prinze, is coming out with a cookbook? Well, he is. Apparently, he loves to cook and does it well. Who knew? According to the Barnes & Noble website, the book will be available on June 7th, but you can preorder now.
