Unknown Mami: I don’t have anything to write about for my post tomorrow.
Unknown Papi: Write about how awesome I am, how I’m so funny, and hard working, and gorgeous, and…
Unknown Mami: And modest.
Unknown Papi: I’m joking…write about how for $10 I can come up with really good blog names.
Unknown Mami: What are some of the blog names you’ve come up with?
Unknown Papi: “Mommy May I?” and … I can’t remember the rest.
Aren’t fears odd? I feel like I fear so many things. Some fears protect us and keep us alive, but some are just a useless burden. I would love it if my daughter never suffered from any pointless fears, but already it has started. She suffers from stickyplasteromaphobia, the fear of band-aids. She hates them. Her grandmother sent her a box of band-aids with Dora on them and another with Hello Kitty and you would think they have pictures of the Satan on them, she is so afraid of them.
My husband has a cut on his left hand that requires the use of a band-aid. If he tries to touch my daughter with that hand she starts to shake her head no and get all teary-eyed. I think she thinks band-aids give you boo-boos as opposed to just covering pre-existing boo-boos.
Are you familiar with the Bart Shooting Trial? The verdict was read today and it’s all over the news here. Former BART police officer Johannes Mehserle was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter in the shooting death of Oscar Grant. The shooting was recorded on video via cell phone. You can look it up on You Tube. I was going to link to it, but it’s very upsetting and I don’t want to be responsible for exposing anyone to it.
Many businesses in Oakland closed early so that employees could go home. So far there has been no violence or rioting. I hope things stay peaceful.
And that’s all she wrote!

I couldn't find the specific clip, but maybe that's a good thing; that disturbing.
How many other people do you think will copy and past that sticky-business into google to see if you are kidding? (You can start the count with me, haha.)
Had I known you were running short on fragments, I would have given you some of mine; I just realized my post is looong. Oh well, I love you anyway 🙂

Nice your hubby gave you blog ideas–mine just told me to blog about his melting ice packs that he uses in in lunch bag. It's been in the 90s all week here in Cleveland!
Stopping by from Friday Fragments.

I was just told I need to give my character in my short story a unique characteristic. Maybe I could use stickyplasteromaphobia?? You're daughther sounds exceptionally unique, and adorable!

Hello Unknown Mami, I would so love to sit down with you sometimes and just chat.
Your cute adorable daughter's fears are for a moment, I know that it seems upsetting but, I know hers will go away. As parents I have learned that our role is often to put perspective on life for our children. She will be fine.
Have a really good day, and I mean it. xxx
About your bilingual post, I am French and I was the only one speaking French to my kids when they were growing up, expect for the yearly visits from French grandparents, I muddle through and put up with them answering me in English a lot of the time. They are now all fluent in French! They have surprised me.It actually worked with perseverance.
Take care.
unknownmami says
I'm not really worried about her fear of band-aids. I find it a little bit funny. I think she's afraid of them because I told her they are for boo-boos and now she thinks they give you boo-boos.
Melani says
That is horrible of the man they shot and killed. I am glad things are calm right now there. There is nothing worse then riots and people going crazy.
I am happy you have joined FF! 🙂
The Absence of Alternatives says
I hope the day/weekend stay peaceful too!
lisleman says
I'm afraid of unicorns. If I ever see one I know I would soil my pants.
Maybe you could have a little fun with the band-aids like put them on your nose or ears and show her how fun they can be. Of course you'll need to take the bag off your head first.
Camp1974 says
Your husband could open a blog-consulting business for sure.

I remember seeing, reading, and hearing about the shooting in Oakland. I heard this morning that there was a lot of rioting going on, I hope that things don't get too out of hand. The video is pretty disturbing and I don't blame you at all for not posting it.
Aw! Is it bad that I find it really cute that your daughter is afraid of bandaids? Maybe it's because most kids love them and want to put them all over their bodies like stickers, at least this way you'll save on buying bandaids over the years! 😉
unknownmami says
Yeah, people following my on GFConnect have had to un-follow and re-follow because I haven't been able to get the feed to update any other way.
missliz says
Mami, Sorry to hear about the bandaid fear. I keep Hello Kitty bandaids in my desk at school for all the big strong football players who get boo-boos. They like them!
It was thoughtful of Papi to try and help you with your fragments. What a guy!
Auntnikki12 says
That is really clever of putpie– I mean at her age, already associating band-aid with owies!!!!
Coby says
My twins are afraid of band-aids. They'd rather scream at the sight of their blood gushing forth than let me put a band-aid on them. Weirdos.
Donda says
That's strange about the band-aid thing…my kids love them. They are almost addicted to them. I think they hurt themselves so they can have them. Little masochistic band-aid seekers!! Your husband sounds like my husband when I say I have writers block.
Rebecca says
My son used to be terrified of other kids…the closer to his age…..the more frightened he became……….My daughter used to be afraid of the smoke that comes out of a tailpipe on very frigid days…

I was wondering if something was wrong. You may want to update readers on twitter and here…I haven't gotten a post from you since June 24th in my reader-the last one I got was Never Say Never!
Good to see that all is still OK, updating my reader!!

My husband is no help at all when it comes to blogging. He thinks the whole thing is stupid.
I've subscribed to your new feed, btw. Welcome to WP!

My preference is pickle band aids, but I seldom wear them. I am a believer that a good application of neosporen is enough. Have a great weekend.
angeliasims says
I think it's good she doesn't like band-aids. My almost step kids are addicted and wear them like sleeve tats. Belly, arms, legs, fingers, and toes. It's a little strange at age 4 and 6! lol.
That is terrible about the happenings in Oakland. Praying for safety and peace. Awful and sad tragedy all around.
macey says
I don't know much about the trial…do they think he did it in self defense or are they glad he was found guilt?
I have irrational fears. I hate that they rent space in my brain.
unknownmami says
Well, if you watch the video and I don't necessarily recommend that you do, it was not in self defense. The guy that got shot was on the ground, not resisting and being held by two other officers. The officer on trial pulls out his gun and shoots him in the back. His defense is that he thought he was shooting his taser, not his gun. There was no need for a taser either. It is all very tragic and the community is upset because the man who was killed was black and the officer is white and there is a lot of racial tension in the community with the police.
unknownmami says
I'd have to say, bacon band aids are far superior to pickle band aids.
Melly says
Happy Friday Mami.
I have an odd fear – I am afraid whenever I take a bath/shower in a tub that is not on ground floor, that the tub will fall through the floor to the level below. It doesn't stop me from showering (thank God), but I always think about it..
immyyas says
Your husband is funny… he probably thinks he is hilarious huh! My husband thinks he is soooo funny, mostly I roll my eyes at him.
Your poor little girl. One of mine used to freak out about Band-aids but now I can't get her to stay out of the cabinet. She keeps putting new ones on all the time. Silly kids!
TechnoBabe says
I think the band aids are pretty cute, too bad they upset your daughter. I bought some with Spongebob on them for my granddaughter. Have you given her the unopened bandaid to see if she would take off the paper and check out the bandaid?
brian says
ack, i hope things stay peaceful as well….scary stuff. my son has this fear that a bear is going to come in the house and eat him in the middle of the night…freaked him out today to see a stuffed one at the science museum. when he rounded the corner he about jumped out of his skin…
Cheeseboy says
Wow, I haven't heard a thing about that trial here in Salt Lake. However, I am sure that if there was rioting, we'd hear all about it.
Strange about the hurt hand.
Kristin_The_Goat says
The shooting is indeed a very sad story all the way around. I'm on a news ban in my house (while my husband is gone) but I was listening to the radio and heard a whole segment on the event. I'm not going to see the video, but I do hope your town honors the words of the grandfather of the boy who was killed – he says he loves the city and please take care of it by not rioting (or something like that.)

AngelCel says
There are only two conclusions I can make from the Bart shooting video – that Mehserle made a terrible mistake (as he claims), or that he's a man on the edge of a nervous breakdown. To deliberately shoot someone who poses no threat, in plain view, in a world where cameras abound would be utterly crazy.
I know nothing about this case, other than what I've seen this morning but based on the above, I think the verdict was probably correct. I just hope the public will think likewise. It's bad enough that one young life has been needlessly lost without the threat of more violence.
I'm assuming Mehserle's mental state has been assessed? Here in the UK there would now also be an independent enquiry into the case and police/public relations – hopefully that will be the next step.
This is such a tragic waste of a young life.
oceangirl415 says
Your Papi is cute, your daughter is very intelligent.
Wish you a happy weekend Mami.
unknownmami says
The family of Oscar Grant is not happy with the verdict because they feel that their son was murdered. I'm glad that Mehserle was found guilty of something. The whole thing is just weird. It makes no sense to me and I can not wrap my head around it. Mehserle did flee jurisdiction and had to be brought back before the trial. As far as his mental state, he was assessed sane enough to be convicted of involuntary manslaughter.
For the most part the demonstrations ended up being peaceful. What I find really perturbing is that opportunistic anarchist groups take the opportunity to riot and loot. It has nothing to do with really caring about the case or outcome and this is a community that really needs to heal.

Mommy May I is a VERY good blog title 🙂
So hilarious about the bandaids.
Most kids are crazy about them : )
Sometimes they even ask for them when they are injury free!
Mama Zen says
My daughter is just the opposite. She likes to cover herself in band aids!
Michelle from Honest & Truly! says
Wellllll you do sorta have to give him that he's pretty funny. Potentially sometimes unintentionally, but funny nonetheless.
Bummer on the Band-Aid fear. Fortunately that's one she should outgrow with relatively few scars 🙂 I remember when Little Miss was absolutely freaked out by all animals, which was … a bit of an issue. We're still working on the bugs thing though!
Free2bMommy says
Damn he is good! He should charge waaaaay more! haha!
Oh yeah, Im with the kid, Dora and Hello Kitty are freaking creepy! Nobody is always that happy! Might as well be Satan!

Thats so cute! But I guess your daughters fear can get in the way when it comes to you having the bandaid on. 🙂 Love the conversation with your husband funny stuff
kimberly says
I find it disturbing that the shooting is on youtube. ick!
How funny (not ha ha, but odd) that bandaids scare her. I guess everyone has an irrational fear or two.
DysfunctionalMom says
That is so funny! My kids were the opposite, if they even had a tiny itch they wanted 7 band-aids!
