My psychiatrist is retiring, my issues are not. Bummer.
I have wonderful friends. I hope none of them ever decides to retire from our friendship.
One wonderful friend, on finding out (via this blog) that I’ve been blue, sent me Infinite Jest by David Foster Wallace.
How nice is that? She sent me over 900 pages of reading pleasure. Like I said, I have wonderful friends.
Ever since being appointed Social Secretary for my children, I’ve been lucky enough to set up playdates for them that include some very pleasant socializing for myself as well. I’m fortunate to know some pretty cool grown ups that have kids that can play with my kids.
Sometimes we get invited over to play
and end up being treated
to a homemade
lovingly prepared
meal.
This Social Secretary gig ain’t so bad.
And now your Friday Fortune Cookie (don’t forget to add “in bed” at the end, if you are so inclined):
One must be available, alert, active, and adaptable.
Very nice pictures. Always a great comfort to have the support of good friends!
Play dates are fun especially when someone cooks! Love your shots….new camera??? Have a wonderful weekend!
Yup, new camera. I’m trying to get practice in whenever I can.
Alright this post makes me hungry. I wanna go out to eat with you guys!
I love surprise meals and treats at a friend’s house! There is something so warm and spontaneous about them – they make feel me lurved.
Thanks for the book recommendation. (I’d buy it from your Amazon link, but these days my book budget is getting blown on textbooks. Hopefully I’ll be able to get a copy from the ol’ public library.)
Have a great weekend. – G
PS. Years and years ago, when my therapist moved her practice to another country, I bawled my eyes out, thinking I’d have no one to lean on. But my friends came through for me and it all worked out. Hugs
Oh, I’m sure you can get the book at the library. I love the library and that is usually where I get all my books.
Wish I had friends like that! LOL You always have great pics to share.
Finding the right psych. is not easy and it’s such a bummer to have a good one leave you! I hope you find another right person quickly if/when you need to. And yay! for wonderful friends. 🙂
I love those red bowls and, what are they, little pots or something? Gorgeous colours!
(If Mrs 4444 offers you Vegemite when she comes to visit then I owe you an apology. Unless you’d like some Vegemite? In which case, having brought the subject up, if she fails to deliver I shall have to send you some of your own!)
(Don’t mind me, it’s 2:37am here and I don’t know why I’m still up.)
Sounds like fun. I have no friends with kids at home…we’re all old. Those playdates become tough to schedule!
Your pictures are gorgeous, I love a bright “pop” of colour! How nice to be invited out! (we have 4 kids…that never happens!)Have a wonderful weekend!
Oh, honey, you don’t need a psychiatrist anyway. Blogging is just as effective, but cheaper. I’m still not certain what my therapist does that my blogosphere friends don’t do better.
Sad to know your psychiatrist is retiring! No problemo! I am sure you will find another experienced one!! I agree with Katharine, your pictures are indeed very nice!
Take care!
Getting invited over for a meal is ALWAYS good.
in bed…for sure…ahem…and dinner looks good…glad you got good friends too, they make life all the sweeter…
I’m sorry you have been feeling a bit blue, but i had to chuckle a bit when i read your first sentence…
Hope you feel better soon!Leontien

awesome pics 🙂
Oh, I remember how important play dates were for us adults starved of adult conversation! Love the reds in your pics… And hurray for all your great friends!
I’m almost 50 and I wish my folks would still set me up play dates still!!! You are a good mom! W.C.C.
Now that is what I call ‘friends with benefits’ – a visit with friends for all AND delicious food!
i’ve always loved homemade food!
what’s that green vegetable?
lovely photos and i especially love the angle of the last one. just awesome!
betty xx
So glad the play dates are fruitful to you also! I seem to either get along with the parents while our kids are having a wrestling match or the kids are best friends and I’m glaring at some skank. Hopefully… And I agree, today is my bff’s birthday… and I wish I could just pop up on her doorstep to surprise her. Because friend’s rock and it’s a blast when you get to love them well.
I remember a playdate once. I wanted to play. She didn’t.
That secretary gig sounds pretty fly! And having really, really nice friends. Love the red dishes. 🙂
The food looks good, I’m thinking that job is not bad at all!
When I was a kid we were sent over to the neighbors to play and if they were tired of us, they’d send their kids home with us! LOL I guess if I had kids I’d understand the play date thing, but as an adult who enjoys food, I totally understand the staying for dinner part. It’s so nice to spend time with people over a wonderful meal.
Have fun enjoying the new camera! and friends make such a positive difference in our lives. That fact is shown to me on a daily basis. I just hope that I can make a difference to them, too.
I heard you’re seeing Mrs. 4444! I’m so happy for both of you!! Enjoy!
Bummer about your psychiatrist–That’s almost as bad as losing a hair stylist. (Is that a rude thing to say? I’m just agreeing with you. Luckily, my hair stylist is at least ten years younger than I am, so she’s not likely to retire before I get too old to drive that far. Man–Maybe I should go to bed…
One of the fringe benfits in deed. I love your little fortune cookie posts. Your so clever so don’t let the blues get you down. Your wonderful and I say so I guess it is official now.
