Greetings and salutations from Florida! This is the first time I have ever been to Florida and I’m having a blast. I’m in Miami as a media guest of General Mills for the re-launch of the new and improved Que Rica Vida website.
Speaking of bloggers, I got to meet some great bloggers in person! They are real live beautiful people with no warts or anything. I am a bit of a recluse and have some difficulties approaching people at social gatherings. I’m so lucky that not everyone is like me. I walked into the hotel lobby to meet up with other attendees and felt over-whelmed. I sat down, pulled out my phone to look busy, and was promptly approached by wonderful gregarious Latina bloggers. It was awesome! Some of them even knew who I was. How cool is that? I heard, “You’re Unknown Mami!” I shook hands, gave some hugs, and felt like I’d died and gone to a Latina blogging heaven and that was before I even got to the event and started drinking.
**As soon as I finished typing the paragraph about being bummed that there was no free wi-fi at the hotel, the phone in my hotel rang, I picked it up and had the following conversation:
Unknown Mami: Yes.
UM: Yeah…
UM: Yes.
UM: No. (thinking: Yeah, you could give me free internet.)
HE: Okay, Ms. Mami, enjoy your stay.
I don’t mean to be paranoid, but I got all freaked out, like they new I was writing about them. I felt like Big Brother was watching. I’m sure it’s just me, but I got up and went to finish the post at a cafe.
And that’s all she wrote!

So glad you're enjoying Miami! I think that's odd they don't have free Wi-Fi – I thought that was pretty standard.
So I'm wondering…how did fellow bloggers recognize you??? Did you have that bag over your head? 😉
Glad you're having fun!
I think every hotel should have free wi-fi. $10 a day?? Seriously? Absurd.
No wi-fi? That's crazy.
I want to know how the latina bloggers knew you were Unknown Mami without the bag over your head!!! Sounds like you are all going to enjoy getting to know one another. It is a surprise that a hotel would not offer free Wi-Fi. The little hotel I worked at here in this small town has free Wi-Fi for goodness sake. I look forward to hearing about your great visit with fellow bloggers and your mini vacation in Miami! Enjoy!
TechnoBabe: The only way they could recognize Mami is with the paper bag over her head. You know how shy she is. I've often wondered if she wears it to bed, and how often she washes and irons it.
Even WE here in Paraguay have free WiFi at our hotel! Come on! 🙂
Have a super time!
I've been waiting for these Florida posts!!
Miami – how exciting! Wonderful city – scaaaary driving! 🙂 Hope you'll get a chance to get down to see Ocean Drive. I'm envious [le sigh].
A belated Happy Birthday for yesterday. x
If you ever come down to Hollywood . . . You better let me know! 🙂
wow you have a real live blogging job! Kick Ass!! Have fun in Florida I have never been as well.
I have a love hate relationship with Florida. But I mostly love it. Have a great time!
I'm also curious as to how you were recognized. Have fun in Florida!
No free wi-fi at Hilton, either! It's always been a pet peeve.
Have a GREAT time!
Could I be a Latina blogger? It sounds sweet. I mean, sucre.
Enjoy your vacation! That is a terrific picture with your phone!! Catch some rays for me, I'm very pasty white and beaming brightness in the skin I'm in. LOL I'm sure we'll here more of your time once you get hooked back up. For now don't worry about us ENJOY your time!!
They are spying on you………they will watch you the rest of your trip. Have wild monkey sex or something, give em somethin to talk about.
I've been waiting to hear about your trip. You should have asked them about getting free Wi-Fi they are able to adjust things at times. Did you happen to try wi-fi on the plane?
Since you listen to spanish ads for money, I suspect you can pick up the different Latina accents. Cuba vs. Puerto Rico etc.
paper or plastic – I'll bet paper
I had a sales trainer who offered the advice that you should always ask because you never know what might happen. HE: Is everything alright? UM: The room is great but I wish your WiFi was free I am on a budget. Next time I'll probably stay somewhere else. HE: Well, we can always comp the wi fi.
See how easy that was? (yes in my fantasy world – but you have to TRY.)
No wi-fi? What?? You need to tell them about it. I thought all hotels were giving it away as in incentive.
On the upside, glad to hear you're enjoying the visit.
I'm glad you're having a great time! I wish I was in Florida right now!
Woo hoo Miami! Sounds fun. That stinks about the wi-fi especially at an event for bloggers. Good luck with the rest of your trip!
I was SO envious when I saw you were in Palm Beach! It's so beautiful there and the ocean is amazing! Have a wonderful time!
That makes me laugh about the paranoia; sorry about that, but it is just really something I would think as well. And would also leave, maybe run into the bathroom and turn the shower on to have a whispered conversation. also, no hotel sex. Have a great time, though! I have never been to Florida either.
I found out after the fact that if I would have told them I was there for that particular event and that I was a blogger that they would have reversed the charges. When I called the front desk they just told me I'd have to pay 9.99 a day, but I didn't tell them I was a blogger. I didn't know I was supposed to. Live and learn.
i hope you enjoy your vacation. take lots of pictures. we all want to see

It just seems mean to not give free wi-fi – I mean for crying out loud, we're already paying for tax, title & license, plus federal fees, user fees, pool fees and who knows what else and we don't even have a say in those fees. I swear my husband and I stayed in the only hotel in Savannah that didn't have free wi-fi. We whined enough that they gave us our parking for free, but still charged us for the wi-fi LOL
Glad to have you in my current home state – wish I was closer and I'd come visit ya, too! Funny how you were recognized. Probably because you were the only one without a picture LOL
Glad you are having fun!!
I had a great time. I'm not even a “beach” person, but I did not want to get out of the water. I really enjoyed it.
it seems like you are have grand time on beach.
Happy Weekend
I'm surprised no one asked for an autograph! I would have… 😉 Enjoy Miami. Sounds fun!
Dont forget to take the paper bag off before your go swimming….Have a great time. I'm jealous LOL BTW My blog misses you!
Anne-Marie
$9.99 a day! That's highway robbery for WiFi. And come to think of it, I can't remember the last hotel I stayed in that charged for WiFi– From Courtyard Marriott to the Waldorf Astoria. Hyatt needs to get with the program 🙂
Keep having FUN!!!
xo
What a great view. I can't wait to hear more about your trip!
I am so glad you are enjoying Miami. What a great place to visit…especially when you're being comped!!! And what a fabulous time of year to go. I wish I were there, too. Think I could pass as latina ?
Mami, hate to ask this; I know it's a bit touchy, but, er, um, please tell me how they recognized you…like, um, you weren't um, wearing that, er, bag-thing were you???
On second thought, if wearing a bag will help aid my case as a latina blogger, I'll wear one, too…
Must, absolutely must, tell us everywhere you went, what you did, and saw…If you get a chance check out the Bal Harbour shops in the small small chance nobody mentioned them to you….I so wish I was there…..
Glad your trip is going well. Wow, what a view! That call from them was weird ~ why didn't you speak up about the wi-fi? Maybe they would have given it to you.
glad you met up with some kewl bloggers…what fun! that's where we stayed on our wedding night 🙂 there weren't as many hotel round then…and south beach was old and empty.
nice. sounds like you are having fun…have a cuban coffee for me!
You should've made them give you the free wi-fi since they were being so nosy! LOL
I hope you enjoy my home state. =) I am something you rarely see – a native Floridian!
I'm off the caffeine so I had my husband have one for you.
I should have said something. Apparently, the wi-fi was supposed to be included for our group. That's what happens when you are timid, you get left out. Live and learn.
I didn't mean that they physically recognized me, I meant that when I told them who I was they were actually aware of my presence in the blogosphere. You know I thought I would go and people would be like, “Unknown Who?”
Visit me at: http://www.unknownmami.com.
I'll be by for a visit soon. Right now, I'm peeling the wet paper bag off my face. Where were you before I went into the water?
At first I was thinking we weren't going to get the free Wi FI too! I asked, and was told to charge it to the room. I did, and upon checkout they told me that all extra charges would be paid by Que Rica Vida.
I think they should have sent an email to all the bloggers letting them know that the wifi would be taken care of and paid for when you checked out.
Wish we would have talked earlier during our stay and would of totally told you about how to get the internet service for free. Again, they should have told us about it.
I asked Cathy myself when I first got there.
Very important to provide bloggers with the free Wifi…and let them know about it. Aside from not letting everyone know about this I felt the treatment was excellent!
It was such a pleasure meeting you! Your daughter is beautiful!!!!
I think that when I called the front desk to ask about the Wi-fi, I should have been a little pushier, but I didn't argue when they said I had to pay. Now I know to give more info. I had a great time at the hotel, though. I loved the room we got.
Enjoy your vacations!!
So glad you are having a great time and fun meeting other bloggers. I can't believe you didn't demand free wi-fi! Have a wonderful time.
I am so glad you are having fun in Florida. I was born there and my parents live in Daytona. I just heard this morning on that Clark Howard show that wifi is totally insecure as in 'big brother' could have been watching! Scary stuff! I hope the rest of your weekend is fun;fun and fun!
Hi Mami!!! Glad your having a great time!!You are so close to me!!!Love your pics!!!Olga
PS. you behave!!:)
I'm jealous. I've always wanted to go to Miami. Have a blast!
That's funny! I always feel Big Brother phobia when I'm at those big hotels too! I'm talking double checking the mirrors and the works… Glad to know I'm not alone with my paranoia.
Enjoy your stay! Get some time in that pool!
Mmmmmmmmmmm Flooooooooooooooooooorida. I just adore Florida!
Just read through the other comments…us timid girls don't get the breaks do we? There should have been a little bit more communication so you woulda known it was going to be covered. Well, like you said…live and learn…next time you'll be sure to question them (until you get your way!)
Sounds like you had a wonderful time!
Florida is great! Enjoy your stay! Loved your “secret” thought!!
B xx
No free Wi-fi is ridiculous!!!! And what did Put Pie buy at Forever 21?? 😉
Awww!! Welcome to the Sunshine State!! I hope you are enjoying your time! Sounds like it!!
And, that, my friend, was too weird about your random phone call. I would be freaked out too! Yikes!
I recently stayed at a hotel that charged for internet but when I asked them to add it to my bill they said it would be free. I sure appreciated that! Funny how addicted we are to the internet now.
I also want to know how the bloggers knew you without the bag on your head!!
PS Hope the trip was spectacular!! And glad that the whole family was able to go. That is so nice.
Too funny!
