On a recent drive from San Diego to San Francisco, we stopped in Los Angeles for a potty break and I pleaded with my husband to make a detour to Magnolia Bakery.
This is Magnolia Bakery in Los Angeles.
I don’t know how much you know about Magnolia Bakery, so let me tell you just a tiny bit about it. It is a renowned bakery that was first established in New York City.
They make cakes.
It stands to reason that a bakery would make cakes and the cakes made at Magnolia are gorgeously dressed with frills made of frosting that are worthy of decorating a quinceañera dress.
But what they are really known for is their cupcakes.
Remember the whole cupcake pandemic craze that hit America in the early aughts? Magnolia cupcakes had a lot to do with people catching the cupcake contagion. In fact, the original bakery did so well that they are now a chain with various locations around the world including the Los Angeles one that we visited.
So what kind of cupcake did I get?
I’m a red velvet gal all the way and as soon as I caught sight of these beauties, there was no need to look any further.
FYI, I’m not a frosting lover. But …
The whipped vanilla icing on this cupcake is not your average frosting. It’s light, fluffy, not too sweet and pairs perfectly with the moist red velvet cupcake that patiently waits to be noticed below it.
I think the detour on our road trip was totally worth it. The whole cupcake craze may be over, but when cupcakes are this good Imma still put them in my mouth. Just sayin’.
