On our last visit to Petaluma, we stopped by Chef Gator’s Rustic Burgers and His Creole Friends because we were hungry and reviews on the internet said that this is a great place to get a burger. The internet was not wrong – at least not this time.
From the outside the place is whatevs.
The inside is bright, clean and welcoming.
I ordered a Bayou Burger.
The Bayou Burger features a grass-fed patty on a bed of lettuce with tomatoes, caramelized onions and creole mustard aioli served on a rosemary garlic bun that apparently took Chef Gator eight years to develop. Eight years! Well, in my opinion those eight years were well spent because the buns are great.
Wait, who is Chef Gator?
Chef Gator is Chef Glen Thompson. He got nicknamed “Gator” in the Army. “After about 16 shots, I got talked into wrestling an alligator at a farm down in Florida,” he told the Argus-Courier. He won the wrestling match and got a nickname out of it. Not sure what the
There’s more than burgers on the menu.
I would definitely go back. My burger was very good and so were the garlic herb fries that I got with it. My youngest daughter got the Winner Winner, Chicken Strips and we all had to have a bite because they were definitely winners.
The next time around I would order the chicken and waffles because I am a sucker for chicken and waffles. I saw an order of them at another table and I wanted to try them so badly, but it would have been weird to ask a stranger for a nibble, so I refrained.
