A couple of weeks ago, because of fires, the noxious air in San Francisco made it so that going outdoors was not an option. Our desire to breathe air that wasn’t toxic led us to visit family in Monterey, California.
While we were there, my sister-in-law suggested we visit Dennis the Menace Playground. How could we say no?
Dennis the Menace Playground
Located within El Estero Park Complex, a 45-acre multi-use recreational area, the playground first opened on November 17, 1956.
Why is it named after Dennis the Menace?
Hank Ketchum, the creator of the Dennis the Menace comic strip, donated the funds to create the park.
Since 1956, the park had been renovated more than once.
As you can imagine, the park has gotten some TLC along the way in the form of various updates and improvements.
It’s lookin’ good.
Granted, we’ve only ever seen it in
Next visit, we’re thinking paddle boats are in order.
The park is right next to El Estero Lake, where you can rent paddle boats in the shape of swans or ducks. You can also rent regular looking paddle boats, but the swans and ducks are SO extra, how can you resist?
