I love looking at photos taken by children. Sometimes as adults we forget about a child’s unique perspective on the world. They are smaller than we are, they see things from a different vantage point, things that may no longer be of interest to us are still fascinating to them.
My 3 year-old, Put Pie, has been asking for a camera. She kept telling us that she NEEDED a camera. Instead of going out and buying her one, I decided to give her one of my neglected digital point-and-shoot cameras.
These are the results of her first photo shoot…
I may be partial, but I think she is already an excellent photographer. What do you think?
Katharine says
Awesome! Giving little ones a chance to explore with a camera is a great way to encourage creativity…who knows what she may discover!

She’s got an AMAZING eye! The hand with the wedding band made me smile – – – of COURSE she would take that picture, it’s what she SEES in the car, and we might never think of it.
And the shot out the window – – – LOVE how the window itself “framed” it.

Yes. I think so too. Amazing!

One of her subjects was the palm tree. I’m in love with her work. I just can’t get enough palm trees in my day.

If she tied her own shoes I understand taking that picture. The pic of blue shoes with big white laces is my favorite. I must say she did much better than our nephew a few thanksgivings ago. All we got back were butt pictures of the whole family.
unknownmami says
Well, butts where probably all he could see.
lisleman says
sure if he only looked straight ahead. There is up down left right.
unknownmami says
Obviously, there were butts up above, butts down below, butts to the left, and butts to the right.
lisleman says
NO – it’s clowns to the left of me jokers to the right

Wow!!! I think she’s very good! Plus I love her blue shoes!
unknownmami says
She just got those shoes; she’s pretty enamored of them.

P.S. When I was about 10 I got a camera and shot a roll of 12 pictures of our gorgeous blooming azaleas. It wasn’t until the pictures were developed that I remembered it was black and white film! 🙂 Oh, that was back in the stone ages!
Chris H says
Yep, she did well… I love the one of her shoes the best!

They are wonderful photos. I was a kindergarten teacher and I have told many people to get down on their knees if they want to see the world of a 4 year old.

I love it. I did that on our Washington DC trip and Gabe took amazing pictures…and totally different from the ones I took.

I think every child’s dreams should be encouraged. Good job! 🙂

Like the photos! Being a child photographer I’m particularly interested in the different perspective with which children see the world. I notice that my 8-year-old son likes to take pictures some a very low angle and he often comes up with some very interesting shots.
