Do you think it’s possible to soak up history? To learn things with your body instead of your mind? To get a sense of where you come from even when you are so young that you probably won’t remember?
I hope so. I really do because my daughters are so young that they will not get to know some of the beautiful people that I grew up with. Today my daughters got to meet my tias. My wonderful tias. Each one of them is special to me. One tia taught me how to play conquian, another tia took me on road trips when I was little, another tia still spoils me with delicious home cooked meals. Unfortunately one of my tias was missing because she is no longer alive, but I hope my daughters sense her in my touch or hear her in my laugh.
My tias are no longer young. The oldest is 85 and it is quite possible that this is the last time I will ever see her. I held her in my arms and told her that I love her, but more importantly she held my youngest in her arms and loved her. Loved her for no other reason than that she is family.
So please let it be true that we can soak up history, that our bodies will have memories that our minds can’t hold, that we will feel the touch of our loved ones long after they are gone. Please let it be true.

I am sure that the love you share with your tias will be felt by your girls, through your touch, stories and the love you give them, no matter where they are.

This is so beautiful. I believe that you will pass that legacy of love to your daughters.

I believe your love for your aunts and all they gave you will be a part of the love and gifts you give to your daughters.

I hope it’s true! I had one of those moments while visiting my grandparents (88 and 86) this summer and watching my little boys hug them and play with them. Sweet, and a sense of heartache to go along with it.

It is very true…and a fact. Our brain remembers what our cognitive memory forgets. I am glad you had such love for you and your little ones. It’s hard to see them slip away from us.
Best,
Tina

Your tias sound wonderful. I have amazing tias as well and I know my sisters will be great too. Maybe you need to write a book about your tias. Not only so your daughters will know them but the world as well.

I’m sure you are the sum of all of their love and your girls will reap that benefit 🙂

This was a very moving post and one that is very thought provoking. “So please let it be true that we can soak up history, that our bodies will have memories that our minds can’t hold, that we will feel the touch of our loved ones long after they are gone. Please let it be true.” Those are some beautiful words!!

I just love this picture.
How wonderful that you had such fantastic aunts. Beautiful indeed.

That is a beautiful thought. We must talk about them and show them pictures so they can know them. I thought it was aunt but I went to google translate to be sure. My mom passed when my children were 4 and 18 months old, they really don’t know her.
