For two years, we have sorely missed being able to visit the Randall Museum while it underwent a much needed $9 million renovation. We’ve missed it like you miss a good friend that’s been gone for far too long. When it reopened on February 11th, we were thrilled that our friend was back better than ever and ready to receive visitors.
As a parent of limited means, I am so grateful for this free-of-charge nature and culture museum, which is truly a treasure to our family and the community at large. We’ve been there so many times. We’ve taken ceramics classes there; we’ve celebrated Halloween there and we’ve learned about nature and science in a way that is very tangible to my children.
Although we’re nuts about the museum, we’re not nuts about crowds so we skipped opening weekend and waited until this weekend to go. At first glance, from the outside, the place looks pretty much the same, but once you walk in it’s like WOWEE!
The place looks fantastic. Familiar, but so much NICER. The part that really blew me away was the renovated live animal exhibit. It’s gorgeous, kid-friendly and such an improvement from its previous incarnation.
This time around, we just did a quick look around, but we’ll be back.
Thank you so much to the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department and the Randall Museum Friends for this awesome renovation. My family is so excited to visit regularly, take classes, learn and make new memories.
