Having a back yard or a front yard, for that matter, in San Francisco is a blessing. Having a beautiful back yard like the one we have is a blessing and a labor of love.
When I first moved in, the back yard was there, but it was a creepy eery kind of place with weeds as tall as I am. I used to run through it as quickly as possible when going to the basement to throw out the garbage. I imagined all kinds of terrifying things lurking in that oversized weed jungle.
Yes, I knew it had potential to be lovely. I also knew that I was not the one that was going to help it live up to it’s potential.
Then in 2001, the man that would later become my husband moved in. It wasn’t long before he tackled the giant weeds in the yard. He worked hard to create what is now a lovely little oasis.
What’s better than reaping the rewards of your hard labor? Reaping the rewards of someone else’s hard labor. Just sayin’.

What an oasis! When we had our house I loved gardening. I don’t miss the hard work though and enjoy plants on our balcony when we finally have some warm weather.
