The Holocaust Memorial in San Francisco is on the grounds of the Legion of Honor. It was created by artist George Segal and is made out of bronze that is painted white. It’s hard to explain how intense it feels to come upon this piece in person. It is harrowing, sobering and stark especially since it sits in such the scenic and beautiful Land’s End location. If you’ve never seen it in person and find yourself in the area you should definitely take a moment to process this piece.
I showed you mine, now you show me yours.
If you link up, please link back or post the Sundays In My City button either in your post or sidebar. I want to foster a sense of community and let people know that other bloggers are sharing their communities too. Happy trails!

:weeping:The way you photographed the statue (“The Thinker”?) and positioned it looking down upon the memorial is so deep.My
French grandmother, who was here in the U.S. at the time, lost most of
her family in the Holocaust, including her parents and sisters.I’ve seen other Hoocaust Memorials but never this one…amazing.

Beautiful chalk drawing & moving images from the memorial. The
reality of what happened then seems almost like a dream but it was not
& we cannot forget.

Living in the netherlands you see different memorials having to do with
the Holocaust and this one is equally powerful. The last two make you
pause..

That first photo is gorgeous. Where is that taken?I didn’t know
you had a Holocaust Memorial out by you, but … so moving. And
haunting. It’s perfect that the sculptures are done in white.
