Hola Chulos y Chulas! I want to give each and every one of you a hug right now because misery love company and right now I’m feeling a bit miserable. Why, you ask? Well, I already wrote about it on Facebook so why don’t I simple copy and paste so you can see where I’m at…
Every week I set my chancla free to gather items of interest on the internets so I can share them with you on Fridays in The Flying Chancla Report. I’m not going to lie, I’ve told my chancla to stay away from the insanity that is Donald Trump vying for that office in the shape of a huevo. I’ve told my chancla that he doesn’t need any more attention and surely soon the whole thing will be revealed as a bad joke, but this week my chancla couldn’t avoid his nonsense and all the other nonsense he seems to have given others permission to spew.
Today I’m sad because as a country we seem to be losing our collective mind. We value people for things that should not be valued and we denigrate people for things that do not merit denigration. And just to be clear: do not denigrate people because of their country of origin, do not denigrate people because of their race, do not denigrate people because they are poor.
Nope, racism is not an issue of the past, neither is classism. My chancla is so bummed this week you guys.
So, my chancleros, that’s why I’m feeling a tad on the miserable side and, as you will see, some of the items I’m sharing simply couldn’t be avoided. Fortunately, the world is not all about Donald Trump so there is also some joyfulness to share.

Here’s what my chancla came acrosss this week:

In case you missed it, although I’m not sure how you could have because it is EVERYWHERE, here is the metaphorical deportation of Jorge Ramos from Trump’s Iowa news conference…
“Go back to Univision,” really?!
-
Then this happens right afterwards…
“Get out of my country,” out of the mouth of a Trump supporter. Really?! Jorge Ramos is a citizen, but “whatever?!”Then someone must have let Trump know that kicking Jorge Ramos out was maybe NOT such a good idea so…eventually Ramos was allowed to come back in and had what amounted to a mini debate with Trump. I don’t even have anything to say about this that hasn’t already been said better by others, I just can’t believe that Trump is still a viable candidate. For those who think Ramos was impolite in how he addressed Trump because he was “out of turn,” I’m just gonna have to say that Trump’s politeness could use some tuning. If the issue was that Ramos was speaking out of turn and that’s why he got kicked out, why couldn’t Trump address the highly resected Ramos politely (because lead by example why don’t you) instead of sending henchmen to deport the immigrant reporter?
- And now for some wonderfulness: Officer Alexis J. Padilla, who is a recruiter for the NYC Department of Corrections, was standing on the sidelines of the Dominican Day Parade when a group of salsa dancers paraded by and he had to get in on the action. It’s awesome. Padilla, taps one of the male dancers to let him know he wants to cut in and then patiently waits his turn and when he gets his turn: WOW! He posted the video on Facebook with the following caption, “Es que yo bailo adonde quiera, celebrating Dominican pride at DR Parade, we had an awesome time representing NYC DOC Recruitment!!!!!#Jointheboldest #NYCDOC #BeBold” and has been getting all kinds of love for it. I agree with this man, we all need to #BeBold and dance anywhere.

And let’s end with weird saying is Spanish, shall we? I mean what is it with the crazy sayings in Spanish? They make sense to Spanish speakers because we grew up hearing them, but when you try to translate them it occurs to you that talking about the healing properties of a frog’s butt is kind of sort of strange. Watch this video to see what I’m talkin’ about.
