Excuse me while I put modesty aside and toot my own horn. I was featured on ChatterBlock in their Best Blogs in the Bay Area article.
I am in excellent company and highly recommend you check out the other featured blogs. It’s always nice to come across a new bloggy treasure.
Speaking of treasures, I just found out that Lupe Ontiveros has passed and I’m really choked up about it. As a Latina and an actor, this woman inspired and touched me with her talent.
I don’t remember the first time I saw her work, but I also don’t remember a time when I didn’t think she was brilliant. The woman defied stereotypes even when she was cast in “stereotypical” roles. I think her friend Alex Nogales put it best in his Piece, A Farewell to Lupe Ontiveros:
It shouldn’t have been so hard for somebody of Lupe’s immense talents to be recognized and embraced… Nobody should doubt brilliance. When somebody has a true gift we are all better off if they are allowed to use it fully and freely.
Thank you Lupe for sharing your talent despite obstacles, thank you for showing me that you don’t have to look a certain way or deny any of yourself to shine. Thank you for persevering.
I literally just found out that she passed and I’m crying, so I’ll end it here so I can have a moment with my grief. Isn’t it strange that someone you never met can touch your life in a way that makes you so sad when they pass?
And now your Friday Fortune Cookie
(don’t forget to add “in bed” at the end, if you are so inclined):
We all deserve a chance to share our talents.

In today’s world we meet people through books, film, TV and now the internet. I suspect some may express themselves more in those media than in person.

Congratulations! I too was very sad to hear about Lupe’s death. She’s that Latina actress that everyone knows, even if they don’t know her name, they know her face.

The only Lupe I’ve heard of is the Rapper Lupe Fiascio who happens to be excellent too. I wonder where he got his name from?
I’m sorry for your loss.

Hey Claudya! As a Brit, I’d not heard of Lupe Ontiveros. But yes, confounding stereotypes is always worth saluting. I’m sad for your loss x Indigo

She had a deaf son. It has really rocked the deaf community. I’m happy to say he’s receiving a lot of support from his friends. Alejandro seems to be doing OK on the surface. I loved her!!!
