“When is Aunt and Uncle’s Day?”, I asked my good friend Google and my good friend Google told me it is on July 26th.
Truly, I think that day needs to get a better PR rep because I’m not sure anyone actually celebrates it. I’m about to change that in our household.
Being a stay-at-home-for-the-most-part parent means that I don’t really get a day off. I don’t get to call in sick even when I am sick. I work outside of the home 2 days a week and if I do have to call in sick those days, I still don’t get to call in sick to my Mami gig.
Yesterday, I woke up feeling worn out, tired, and sick. Having Unknown Papi call in sick to help me take care of the girls was not an option and I was not excited about the day ahead. A nursing baby and an energetic toddler take a lot out of me on a good day, but on a sick day I just don’t have enough in me to keep everyone happy. And it was raining, which means I couldn’t even just go sit in the back yard with the girls to keep Put Pie entertained.
Then my BIL, Unknown Tio, woke up. Ah, to be able to sleep in on a day off. I have to say I was a bit envious. He was getting dressed to take his dog out for a walk and Put Pie ran up to him and asked if she could go too. He looked dubious and said, “What if I take Unknown ChaCha for a walk first and then come back for you?”
It was like I heard angels singing and I guess Put Pie did too because she could hardly contain her excitement. True to his word he came back and took her for a walk in the rain. I thought he’d take her for 20-30 minutes, but NO! He took her for 2 hours. He took her for a walk, then out to lunch, and then on her first bus ride ever. She came home exhausted and took a 3 hour nap.
So from now on on July 26th I will remember to celebrate all the wonderful aunts and uncles that are an active part of their nieces and nephews lives.
A special thank you to Unknown Tio for being such a loving uncle to my daughters. We are lucky to have you in our lives.

So sweet. Unknown Tio is the best! I do have to add that I’m sure, while you were enjoying the break, I bet UT was loving the time with his very special niece.

You are absolutely right!! When my sisters lived with me, they would spend so much of time with the kids it did give me a lot of free time. Apart from waiting for their dad to get home, they would also wait for their aunt’s with goodies…:D

He’s such a great guy anyway; his actions don’t surprise me a bit. You are a lucky SIL.

Growing up my Tio Trini was like the coolest guy ever. Spending time with him either washing his mini-truck or just listening to tapes are some of my favorite childhood memories.

Your BIL is AWESOME! I’m sure Put PIe LOVED every minute of her outing with him and I’m so glad you got some rest. But my questions is… After Unknown Tio’s outing with a toddler, how long did HE nap afterwards 🙂

Tios and Tias are totally special in my life, too. Glad Put Pie had a lovely outing. I almost grew up with three uncles (mom’s brothers) – we were a joint family the first 24 years of my life 😀 And the great thing was – they all seemed my age even as I grew up.
I’d like to shake Unknown Tio’s hand.
😉 And hope there are many more outings so you get a little time to put your feet up.

a wonderful act of kindness but I know his reward was special because kids that age can be so special. I’m sure you know this – they typically act much better with guardians other than their parents.

What a man! I am so happy you got a break, then to have her sleep 3 hours too! Whooop whooop!
