The girls are headed back to school. It’s time, but I’m kind of sad to say goodbye to the summer. Why? Because we did nothing this summer and it was AWESOME.
Let me tell you a little about doing nothing over the summer …
I remember when I was a kid and at the beginning of every school year I would get asked, “What did you do this summer?” I would ALWAYS answer, “Nothing.” But I wasn’t upset about it or anything because I loved doing “nothing” in the summer.
Now that I have kids, I overhear them answer “the what did you do this summer” question the same way I used to. They say we did “nothing” and I don’t feel bad about it at all because they love doing “nothing” in the summer too.
We say we did nothing because when people ask that question it feels like we’re supposed to say that we went on a trip, did a bunch of summer camps, took classes or did something BIG. We didn’t do anything big, but we did have big fun. Fun like …
We saw the new Dora the Explorer movie.
“Dora and the Lost City of Gold” was a win with all of us.
We went to parks we’d never visited before.
This picture was taken at Robson-Harrington Park in San Anselmo, which has a really interesting history and an awesome community garden. We stumbled across it on a drive.
We visited the San Francisco Botanical Garden.
The SF Botanical Garden is the kind of place you could visit time and time again and never get tired of.
We checked out the Art Cart at the Salesforce Rooftop Park.
The Art Cart at the Salesforce Rooftop Garden has free art supplies. Need I say more?
We went to the dentist.
You’re probably thinking that going to the dentist isn’t fun, but my kids love going to the dentist. Either they are weird or have a great dentist. Actually, it’s both: They’re weird and have a great dentist.
We went to the library a bunch of times.
There are two library branches within walking distance of our home that we visit regularly. This one is the San Francisco Park Library branch.
Then there was all the sleeping in and cuddling in the mornings, the doing whatever we wanted on our own schedule, the staying up late, the bonding and all the moments of just being happy to be together.
Goodbye Summer Vacation!

This sounds like my dream summer. Doing nothing is the best relaxation for moms, in my opinion.
