10 Savory Popcorn Toppings You Can Enjoy at Home

popcorn for home movie night

Sponsored by Conagra

Guess who stocked up on ACT II popcorn and got the DVD of “Spider-Man: Far From Home” using Walmart Online Grocery Pickup for our most recent movie night? ME! It was totally me.

I’ve always cherished our movie nights, but now that my eldest is in danger of entering that I’m-too-cool-to hang-out-with-my-parents phase, I treasure them even more because they give us precious time to bond, snuggle, laugh and snack on popcorn.

There are four of us in our family and sometimes it’s hard for all of us to agree on what to watch during movie night, but one thing we all agree on is that popcorn is a must. I mean, is it even movie night without popcorn? I’m going to go with an emphatic NO on that!

They call me Popcorn Bae.

Popcorn Topping Ideas

Have you ever heard of Salt Bae? He’s known for sprinkling salt on food with flair. Well, at my home, I’m Popcorn Bae because I’m known for sprinkling our popcorn with flavors that give it flair.

One of the great things about popcorn is that the whole-grain snack can be seasoned in many, many ways. I am more of a savory snacker than a sweet snacker, so I thought I would share some of our favorite savory popcorn toppings.

Savory Popcorn Topping Ideas

10 Savory Popcorn Toppings

  1. Nutritional yeast: This is by far our favorite topping to add to popcorn because of its cheesy, nutty flavor.
  2. Chile and lime seasoning: I favor Tajín, but you do you, Boo.
  3. Furekake: Great for seaweed lovers.
  4. Garlic: I go for garlic powder that has no salt if the popcorn already has salt.
  5. Dried rosemary: Sprinkle some on by itself or combine it with garlic powder.
  6. Parmesan: Tastes great sprinkled over popcorn on its own or mixed with garlic and rosemary.
  7. Freshly ground pepper: Sometimes the simplest things are the best.
  8. Taco seasoning: Who said taco seasoning is just for tacos?
  9. Smoked paprika powder: Adds a touch of smokiness to your popcorn.
  10. Lemon or lime: Sprinkle some fresh lemon or lime juice on your popcorn and if you like it “loco,” you can add some hot sauce to it.

The best part is that you probably already have most of these toppings at home. All you have to do is stock up on popcorn and don’t forget you can use Walmart Online Grocery Pickup to make your life easier.

Popcorn Trivia

Have you ever wondered why popcorn pops? Popcorn kernels have a small amount of water stored in a circle of soft starch inside their hard outer casing. When the kernels get heated, the water expands to the point of making the kernels P-O-P!

What kinds of toppings do you like on your popcorn?
