When my husband works, I stay home with the kids. When I work, he stays home with the kids. Most weeks we are lucky to have 1 day off together as a whole family. This past weekend the stars aligned and we both had Saturday and Sunday off.
We took that as a sign from the Universe that we were meant to take a road trip. We loaded up the car and headed to Sacramento to visit with family. We ate had fun, ate some more, had more fun, and went to sleep.
Sunday we woke up feeling our trip had been a smashing success and ready to have a little more fun before heading back to San Francisco. Unknown Papi goes to pack up the car and finds that our trip was undeniably smashing.
Our driver’s side window had been smashed to smithereens. We have no idea by whom or what or even what the intention was. No one had been in the car and nothing in the car had been taken, so theft did not appear to be the motive. My theory is that some drunken St. Patrick’s Day revelers got a little too wild. It’s all supposition on my side.
We were bummed and our plans went from having more fun, to getting the window replaced before we left. It turns out that we will have to spend one more evening in Sacramento.
I guess the Universe wanted us to spend more time together as a family. Thanks Universe. Next time could you just have us win the lottery or something?

What a pain in the butt. I’m glad nothing was taken and that you were all okay. Could a stone have flicked up from a passing car and smashed the window?

Ugh! Sometimes, people suck!

It just goes to show you “the universe” is smarter then we are. ~ So glad you got to spend the weekend together. You would just spend lottery money on something stupid like: food, shelter and clothing for the kids. . . this was much better! 🙂 LOL

It is a bit of a shock to walk out and find the window smashed, isn’t it? Glad you were all together and safe with relatives. About ten years ago I walked out and found the passenger window smashed and antenna broken off and my change gone and all the papers in my glove box thrown all over the inside of the car. All the pieces of glass are hard to get out, I found some later under the seat. So glad you are all right and that your weekend was not ruined by a crappy broken window.

Yikes! So sorry to hear this! Still, glad you were OK and got to spend more time together in Sacramento!

Hopefully it was an accident, and not malicious behavior. We bought a car last year, and on two separate occasions, windows were smashed within six months. Hope all is fixed now and you are home safely. What a great picture!

Hell no!! I do have to say Sacramento is a hotbed for that kind of activity. My brother in law’s car got broken into at least 5 times in under a year before they finally moved to a different area. They were in the Novato area, now theyr’e further east. I am nervous about when we move there… I want to be able to park the car in the garage. I’m sorry you had to experience this!
I wonder if theft WAS the original motive… the way it looks– it looks like they threw something in, and cleared up enough space to reach inside… but something must have spooked them and the job wasn’t done?

Ugh! The window is no fun at all but I’m hoping you guys get some bonus time after fixing the window.
lisleman says
it does make for an interesting photo effect but then the digital process for doing that is much cheaper than a broken window. Good that you didn’t let it ruin your weekend.
deborahpucci says
Sorry about the window but way to go on the fun times!
Eva Gallant says
I once had that happen to a car window just by slamming the door shut. Something about the car being too air tight, causing the window to explode.
LindyLou Mac says
Oh that was a nasty shock and it was lucky you were not in a rush to get home.

i despise jerks who ruin other peoples’ property.
Anyhow, family time is quite groovy 🙂 Xx
Katharine says
At least you get to spend it in a place you like! So glad no one was hurt!
Classic NYer says
At least you did get to spend more time together as a family. There’s a blessing in every shattered window…
Chris H says
Oh drat! I hope it hasn’t ruined your weekend too much.
Joanna Jenkins says
I yiyi… That just stinks. I’m really sorry, Mami.
Safe travels home.

Whaaa. What a bummer. Good thing the broken window didn’t come with the heartache of theft. And glad you weren’t in it when it happened!
Ttownsend says
Oh no!!! 🙁 I’m glad you got away…but I’m sad that happened!!!
Kimberly says
Oh, what a bummer. Glad nothing was stolen. I hate when plans are changed due to car stuff. But at least everyone was ok.
Hilary says
That’s disconcerting but at least you got another day out of it. I hope the repair wasn’t too costly.
La Principessa says
Gotta agree, I would listen to the universe a whole lot more if lottery tickets were involved. Had ours smashed on St. Patty’s here in the city, I too chalk it up to too much green beer.
unknownmami says
Yeah, I have to believe that it had something to do with too much green beer.
Vidya Sury says
Gosh! i was away for two days – and when I read this in the mail, it scared the sh*t out of me. I am glad you guys are safe! Phew. Glad you were together and enjoying family time, although it sucks to have repair costs!
