We were driving around the Mission District looking for parking and had the good fortune to find a spot right in front of these two street art pieces by Amandalynn. I was drawn to the two women depicted on the murals and when I saw that the artist is a woman, I had to look her up.
A few clicks around the internet and I found Amanda Lynn’s website as well as an interview on Street Art SF. She has a background in fine art and majored in illustration at the Academy of Art in San Francisco where she received a Bachelor of Fine Arts.
I don’t think that it was an accident that I was drawn to women that were drawn by a woman. Something about the way they are depicted feels grounded in understanding.
She primarily paints women in her street art and when asked where she finds her inspiration by Street Art SF, she answered: “I am constantly inspired by females I see on the street, in books, magazines, movies, etc.”
I will be keeping an eye out for more of her work.
