So sometime back in September when I found out that mitú was launching Barrio Box, a subscription box service, I whipped out my credit card faster than a Latina mother’s speeding chancla because I wanted in. At the time, I thought it was a monthly subscription because apparently I can’t read or do math, but it is actually a seasonal subscription. A few days ago, the first box was delivered and I thought I’d share what was in it.
To start things off there’s a note.
A handwritten note was inside the box letting me know that the box was made just for me and thanking me for being a Barrio Box member. Nice touch!
There was food.
Edibles included in the box were a Tapatío ramen bowl and picante seasoning as well as Lucha Frutos sour belts and gummy bears with chile azul. I haven’t tried the ramen or seasoning, but the sour belts and gummy bears are long gone. They were SO GOOD!
There was also some plush cuteness.
That sweet little coin purse is by Panaderia Xochico, I thought it was a concha, but it is a niño envuelto. As for the handsome avocado plushie, his name is Guacardo and he is a mitú creation.
Funny t-shirt and beanie coming right up!
I cut the t-shirt up a bit and tied it in the back so that the fit would be more my style instead of being so boxy.
The hat I left as is.
Say hello to my cute new stickers and enamel pins.
I love enamel pins and stickers so these were a win for me.
And I am now the proud owner of my very own paletero cart.
It’s actually one of the many awesome offerings from Fúchila Fresheners.

In conclusion:
All in all, I would say that I am pleased with everything that came in the box. I find the “not knowing what you’ll get” aspect of subscription boxes fun as long as I’m getting things that I like. Also, a couple of the items from the box were immediately claimed by my daughters and now they are looking forward to future boxes.
One thing I would like is for each box to come with a list of items included, short description and their retail value. Other subscription boxes that I’ve tried do this and it adds to the fun because you get to see exactly how much money you “saved” by getting the box instead of buying everything individually. For example, you are supposed to be getting “$100 + value for $39.99” from Barrio Box and that was the case, but I had to do my own calculations to see if it added up to the promised value.
