Chip Chip Chaw! Tales of the Unsane (Review & #Giveaway)

Chip-Chip-Chaw-Tales-of-the-Unsane

There was a time when I would read a book from beginning to end whether I liked it or not. Those days are gone! My time is precious and limited. If the book doesn’t grab me, engage me, and leave me wanting more, then I’m movin’ on.

I tell you this because my most recent read, Chip Chip Chaw! Tales of the Unsane by Alex Bosworth, left me wanting more ‘til the very end and then some. The author, Alex Bosworth (according to the bio on the back of the book) was born in a house he built himself in San Diego, circa 1965.

The book is a collection of short stories that makes for great reading for someone like me that is constantly being interrupted by the fruit of my loins. I could get in and out of it with no problem. I found it to be funny, imaginative, twisted, morbid, and utterly delightful.

I have it on good authority (from the author’s wife) that the stories are meant to be read and shared out loud like a good joke, which I totally get because while I was reading the book I kept finding myself reading parts of it out loud to Unknown Papi. Some parts were just too funny to keep to myself. A few of my favorite lines from the book include:

It was a fairly heady subject matter for a bunch of ten-year-olds, but our teacher, Miss Freemont, was very progressive, which is a term that was used in the seventies for people who experiment with drugs. –“Stick Stapler Toronto”, Chip Chip Chaw! Tales of the Unsane by A. Bosworth

Being a child is a lot like being drunk. You’re clumsy, impatient; you say the first thing that comes to your mind without thinking and when it’s all over, you hardly remember any of it.-“Three Toes in Heaven”, Chip Chip Chaw! Tales of the Unsane by A. Bosworth

For an example of Boworth’s writing style and to get a sense of his humor, check out the following Animated Feature:

If you like to read and don’t mind laughing, I would recommend the book. If you don’t like to read and you mind laughing, you’ve got problems and I can’t help you. You can buy Chip Chip Chaw! Tales of the Unsane on Amazon. You are also welcome to try your luck for a chance to win a copy…
