Hola Chulas y Chulos! Do you have any plans for Cinco de Mayo? You know that holiday that isn’t Mexican Independence Day so most Mexicans don’t actually celebrate it, but it’s kind of a marketer’s dream in the U.S. so you’ll see displays at all the supermarkets and companies that seem to forget Mexicans exist the rest of the year are all of a sudden really into red, white and green guacamole on everything. ¡Viva el dólar!
Some folks get offended because cultural appropriation and all that stuff, but my chancla and are like güatever people just want an excuse to get drunk so let them.
Whether you celebrate or not, here are some Cinco de Mayo memes that you’ll appreciate…
Cinco de Mayo is a bigger deal in the U.S. than it is in Mexico.
In Mexico, the holiday is mostly celebrated in the state of Puebla.
The holiday commemorates the victory of the Mexican army over the French army on May 5, 1862, at the Battle of Puebla.

When it falls on a weekday, the Mexicans who didn’t celebrate with all the silly gringos go to work.

It does have a great name though, doesn’t it?
Unless you know absolutely no Spanish at all.
Perhaps it’s time to change the name of the holiday.
