Cold Season Woes

“Mama, I need Mama”, I hear from the littlest one in my home and I know she needs me more than usual.

Sick girls during cold season

“I want Mama”, says my oldest who is all of 4-years-old and I know that even though she is a TOTAL daddy’s girl, that no one, but no one can substitute for me.

It’s that time of the year when no matter how careful we are or how many times we wash our hands, we’re just bound to get sick. And when my babies are sick, my babies want their Mama. And I totally get it because to this day whenever I’m sick, I want my Mama.

I remember being sick as a child and the world would stop for my busy mother. She stopped being the social butterfly that was always on the go and fully embraced nursing me back to health. You might not think this is a big deal because that’s what mother’s do, right? But you see my mother was a single-mother who worked a lot. She was also a young, vibrant, beautiful woman who loved socializing. To say she was gregarious and in demand is an understatement. But when I was sick, the dizzying excitement that always seemed to swirl around her, came to a screeching halt. She’d close the doors to our home, tuck me in, and take care of me with a focused attention that let me know everything was going to be alright because I had my mama.

Her sopas de fideo with a squeeze of lemon, the hot cups of té de manzanilla that I had to drink whether or not I wanted to, are the medicine I now crave whenever I’m ill. My mother knew that I needed her to share a little more tenderness and a little more softness whenever I was ill and she did just that, she shared.

Do you know someone who isn’t feeling well and could use a soft touch?

Kleenex Share Pack #KleenexSWS

Visit Kleenex on Facebook and find out how you can send someone who isn’t feeling well a Share Pack. Remember, you don’t have to be someone’s mama to help them feel better. Don’t share germs, do share care.

Fess up: do you want  your mama when you are sick?

What a nice thing to remember about your mom. There is something about a sick child that puts everything else in the background for a mom.

Awe, poor little ones. You are so right there is no one who can make a sick child feel better than their momma. Hope your little ones quickly shake this bug.

That’s why mothers are so special – aren’t they? Your post made me remember my Mom too and all the love and care she gave us when we were young…those days are truly missed.
But yes, when kid’s have cold during this season, they do need their Mom the most, especially young ones like yours. I guess they need more of the gentle emotional touch from us than anything else – isn’t it?Thanks for sharing. 🙂

OMG 2/3 of my babies are also sick!
I love the story of your mami. My mom was the same and now I can not go without making the kiddies a special “sick” meal because of her. I JUST finished un arroz con pollo and have the Kleenex tissues out in every room.
Hope your baby girl feels better!

    Those share packs are cute.

I still want my mom when I don’t feel good, too. Moms are special.

What a touching post! You must love your mother and your children very much. We fix sopa de fideos and chamomile tea for people in Honduras when they are sick, too. The only difference: we can’t afford kleenex. No matter: love is the most important thing. Get well soon, little ones.

Your girls are getting so big.  Hope they are both feeling better.  It’s no fun having a cold.  I’ve already had two this Fall and I want my Mama too!
Take care and don’t catch it yourself.

This time of year is TERRIBLE.  I am sick ALL the times because my students are sick all the time.  I’ve built up my immune system to a point, but when I get a bug it knocks me out!  My mom used make me some type of hot drink with whiskey (I think) in it.  It sure helped. 🙂
