DIY Duct Tape Bunting

Duct tape bunting

Sponsored PostLook what I made! I wanted to make something a little festive in a patriotic sort of way for our backyard, kind of sort of in honor of the 4th of July, but I didn’t want to go with flags, so I decided to make duct tape bunting in the colors of the flag and I love it and find that it works really well outdoors because the duct tape can handle the weather far better than bunting made out of some other material.

It was super easy to make and if you would like to make your own, here’s what you will need:

Supplies for duct tape bunting

  • Rope. I used this Blue Hawk Diamond Braid Poly Rope that I got at Lowe’s.
  • Duct tape in the colors of your choice. (Note: the red tape I used is stucco tape and I would not recommend it. I found that the duct tape was MUCH easier to work with, so stick to duct tape.)
  • Scissors
  • Some kind of measuring device. I used a self-healing mat. You could use a ruler.

Making the bunting is super easy. I cut strips of tape roughly 10 inches long and then carefully folded them in half over the rope. I alternated colors and spaced the strips one inch apart from each other on the rope to keep everything nice and even.

The self-healing mat helped protect the surface I was working on from the tape, if you don’t have one, then take whatever precautions you need so that you don’t end up damaging anything with the tape.

Once I had made the bunting as long as I wanted, I cut all the strips to be four inches long, then I took one strip, folded it in half and cut a triangle into it. I used that triangle as a template to cut triangles in all the other strips. See?

Then I went to my backyard and found the perfect spot for my bunting and turned it from this…

I think it is super cute and it’s possible it may stay up until it falls to pieces ’cause, why not?

I had not heard of stucco tape. Apparently it has much more adhesive so that it sticks to rough surfaces better. Nice July 4 decor. Did you play the 1812 overture when you hung it up?

The only music that played was in my head.

I’ll tell you what that stucco tape is no joke. It is sticky and then some.

ah where is everybody – is there a blogger strike that I didn’t hear about? I might just start protesting for higher minimum comments.
