Do you ever come up with an idea that you think is pretty good and then it morphs into an even better idea? That’s what just happened to me. You see, I was on a mission to create an outdoor oasis as part of this sponsored campaign in collaboration with Pier 1 Imports and my good friends at Latina Bloggers Connect. I was thinking that what I would end up with would be a let’s all hang out as a family outdoors and live it up kind of space, but then as I started to put everything together it occurred to me that I could create an outdoor date night oasis for hubby and myself and that is exactly what I did.
It’s absolutely perfect because we do not get enough date nights. Going out is awesome, but it involves getting a baby sitter and all sorts of planning. But, what if we go out after the kids are in bed and our “out” is actually our backyard? The kids go to bed at the same time they always have, but lately the sun has been staying out longer. Hubby and I can step out into our backyard, enjoy an adult beverage and a light meal or snacks and savor that beautiful time of day when dusk turns into night. We get to spend time together that is special and romantic, we are still close enough to hear the kids, and we don’t have to deal with San Francisco parking issues when we are done. Nice.
Now, it is hard to appreciate the changes I made to our outdoor space without seeing a before picture. Here’s what we had going on before I updated our backyard table space area.
I mean it was fine. There was a table and a chair with lovely plants. I would sit there or hubby would sit there, but we would never sit there together because it wasn’t really a together sort of space, but now it is.
Do you see the difference? I didn’t have matching chairs, but I used these gorgeous cushions I got from Pier 1 Imports to make the chairs I do have go together.
I love this Tropical Paradise Patio Bar sign below. It’s only function is to make me smile and feel like I’m “out” so to speak.
And look at all the wonderful stuff I got for the table!
I feel like the table was totally transformed with the colorful table runner, placemats, cloth napkins, plates, and stemless wine glasses I got at Pier 1 Imports.
I love that you don’t have to start from scratch to create a new feel to a familiar space. Our old chairs and table look all gussied up with their new accessories. Our new purchases also got all up close and personal with pieces we already had on hand. I put the gorgeous cloth napkins in an empty jelly jar I had previously spray painted silver. Our silverware is inside of a old mason jar lined with one of the new cloth napkins. The lavender and flowers in the centerpiece are from our own garden, I put then in an empty bottle we had laying around and set them on top of our new plates.
I love that with just a few pieces I was able transform what was a fairly drab spot in our backyard into a vibrant little date nook!
