Fangirling at #WeAllGrow Summit 2019

WeAllGrow Summit 2019 Claudya Martinez

I spent Wednesday through Sunday of last week at #WeAllGrow Summit 2019 in Long Beach, California and it was GLORIOUS. So glorious that I completely forgot to post last week’s Sundays In My City post. Oh well, I’m back this week to show you how I was fangirling while at #WeAllGrow.

WeAllGrow Summit

First, let me explain what #WeAllGrow Summit is. It is billed as “the go-to professional summit for Latina changemakers.” Although it is a “professional” summit, it’s also a kind of spiritual, growth and just be a better you summit as well. I am a part of the #WeAllGrow Team so technically I was there working, but we all know that when you love what you do it doesn’t feel like work.

OK, now on to the fangirling part. You should know that I don’t really do the fangirl thing with most celebrities because I realize that they are just people, but I couldn’t stop myself from fawning over the celebrities I saw at #WeAllGrow Summit. Why? Because they are out there representing Latinx and making us visible. How can I not be overly excited about that when I grew up with so few representations of my people and culture?

Anygüeys, here are a few of the celebs I had the pleasure of fangirling over.

Mishel Prada

Mishel plays Emma Hernandez on “Vida,” which airs on Starz. If you have not watched the show yet, GET ON IT! It’s so good and Mishel’s acting is phenomenal.

Ser Anzoategui

Ser heartbreakingly depicts Eddy Martínez on “Vida.”

Chelsea Rendon

Chelsea plays the fierce Mari AKA La Pinche Chinche on “Vida.”

Curly Velasquez

Perhaps you’ve peeped Curly in Buzzfeed’s Pero Like videos and if you haven’t, there’s no time like the present. He also makes appearances on “Vida” because he’s cool like that.

Yalitza Aparicio

Yalitza was nominated for an Academy Award for her portrayal of Cleo in the film “Roma,” which was her first acting role ever.

It was so wonderful to get to appreciate these talented people in person. May they continue to thrive and may their efforts lead to even more Latinx representation EVERYWHERE.
