I find the mainstream media coverage of the mid-term elections and politics in general to be deplorable and sensationalist. It is beginning to sound as if they are covering a wrestling match and not the real kind of wrestling:
Power Shift versus Gridlock, who will come out the winner?!
Most of this stuff is not news, it’s straight up editorializing and supposition. Sick of it! I want to be informed, but it’s getting harder and harder to get the information without the crap. I could go on, but then you would get sick of my crap.
This fair city of mine celebrated the Giants winning the world series with a parade on Wednesday. It was unbelievable the amount of people that showed up to the festivities. I keep trying to get an official estimate of how many attended and I come across “hundreds of thousands”, but I call bullshit! I think the Giants estimate of more than 1 million people gathering to watch the parade along the route and Civic Center is closer to the truth.
I watched from the comfort of my home, but can I just tell you that the feeling was electric. It was a deliriously joyful celebration. This city is no stranger to parades or gatherings, but I have never seen anything like this. It was wonderful to see so many people gather in celebration.
An emergency shipment of orange confetti was flown in from LA. People called in sick to work, took their kids out of school, and flooded the streets in waves of orange and black. The players rode on cable cars down Market Street headed toward City Hall. Even the weather was glorious.
Here’s one loyal fan’s tribute to the Giants; he got so many hits on youtube that he ended up on a float at the parade:
I’m nursing a cold that was very lovingly given to me by my daughter. It is impossible not to get sick when she does because she loves to sneeze right in my face and reward all my attentions with sloppy wet kisses that she insist don’t count as kisses unless they are on the lips. She’s only two so I’m hoping she will grow out of this behavior before she is an adult.
Have a great weekend!!!

sadly… this is life in the land of 24/7/365 “news.” pretty dang sick of it all too. too bad they’ll be beating the drum of the presidential election before too long. no honeymoon for us anymore!
sounds like a great celebration. orange is an awesome color… i would know. here in knoxville it’s the dominant color… UT-Volunteers. it’s all about the Orange, baby!!

Very cool video. Congrats to the Giants. And to their fans.
Slobbery kisses from the little sweetie. Hope your cold gets better soon.
I have a cold right now too. Just got too darn tired during the move.
Take care.

Many moons ago, I was in the “news” business…back when it was the news. We weren’t allowed to editorialize or suppose in our stories. We could only quote people and state the facts. I wish that was how the news was now!
Sorry to hear about your cold! You were smart to watch the parade from your own home. I like crowds, but then again, I don’t. 😉

I agree with you about the election coverage. I tend to tune it out these days as I can’t stand all the yapping.
Hope you (and your daughter) feel better soon!

It’s interesting most of the people hate politics but politicians make decisions of our lives, idea of democracy. It would be great to see quality programs, quality politicians…
But as long as money and this kind of capitalism rules ordinary citizen suffers.
We want to belong to groups, tribes, feel unity. That’s why sports are so popular.
But if sports are taken too seriously – as a war zone or battle field – then it’s not sports anymore, nor fun.
I’ve been once in a ice hockey match in Canada and that was a game! 🙂

Ahhhh…… not quite such celebrations around here. Trick or treating was held early this year, the streets were all quiet by 7pm as everyone hurried home. Then, all too soon, it was over.
I had a cold, was just getting over it and now have another. At almost four the germ sharing and kisses have not ended around here 🙂

I’m so glad the elections. If politicians would donate some of the money they spend on their campaigns, a lot of problems would be solved. Hope you feel better soon, Mami.

Minus the cold, those big sloppy kisses are the best! My daughter is not into kisses on lips…she told me the other day that kisses on lips are just for when you are married.
Hope you feel better soon!
…and I’m glad the election is over too.

Peanut just gave me his cold. Baby A gave it to Peanut AND to Baby B. Baby B just puked all over the carpet…in the same spot where he peed last week because he fell out of bed and stayed asleep and peed through. Keep your shoes on at my house.
Hope you feel better soon!

hope you feel better soon! never fun to be sick especially with young ones in the home! It has amazed me for several years that we go “crazy” when sports teams win and cheer them on, going crazy with our “adoration” of them yet we don’t honor God who created us. Something is wrong in that equation, yet the majority of us are “guilty” of that.

I remember when the Braves had that 1st great season in the 90’s. It was such a cool feeling…especially since I was in college, downtown Atlanta.

I agree with you on the politics. It’s a joke. As for the Giants, I was at the parade. My post tomorrow on Sundays in my city is all about it. You are right, I’ve lived here all my life and have never seen anything like it, at all.

Looking forward to your post.

“grow out of this behavior” – which one – sneezing in a person’s face or kissing on the lips or both? The combination of the two at the same time could be scene from a romantic comedy. Maybe she’ll be an actress.

I am really happy for your city. When Philly won 2 years ago, the same thing happened. People went insane. It is nice we can all be excited about something big together : )

What a great video! They did a great job turning the Journey song into a Giants song. I had no idea about Fear the Beard – guess I’ll have to google that lol
I hope she grows out of those slobbery kisses, too – but not kisses 🙂

You could try sneezing in her face? 🙂
The giant Giants celebration reminds me of when the Packers won the Super Bowl in 1996. (now I sound like an old fart!) “It’s electric” is a perfect description. It was certainly a bonding moment for our city, too.

I absolutely love when we come together to celebrate something good. We forget all the crap that seperates us and just focus on what went right. Love it ~
