I Comment Therefore I Am

Welcome to another edition of I Comment Therefore I Am, where I put together a post from comments I’ve left on other blogs. Below are some of my favorite posts from the previous week and what they inspired me to say.

Have you ever had a craving that you couldn’t figure out? Helen from Feeding Five for Fifty is having a craving, but she doesn’t know what for. She reminded me that…

When I was a little girl I used to get cravings that I couldn’t figure out. I remember one particular time, I spent the whole day eating trying to figure out what my craving was for and at the end of the day I found it. It was a banana I wanted. Why couldn’t I figure that out? Maybe I’m just bananas.

At Workforced, an office comedy blog, I read My Handshake Brings all the Boys to Their Knees and shared my favorite handshake technique:

I like to do the Chicano handshake with everyone so they know I’m down. It’s a four part handshake that says:
1 – I’M NOT UNDER YOU
2 – I’M NOT ABOVE YOU
3 – I’M WITH YOU
4 – SOMOS CHICANOS!!!

Most people I do it with are not Chicanos so they just think I’m weird.

At The Absence of Alternatives I read a post called One Ellen Degeneres is not enough and it made my stomach hurt. I will not summarize it because it is a very well-written post and you should take the time to read it. My comment relates to the word “gay” being used as an insult.

Will it ever end? I feel like we make a little progress and then we regress a decade. Gay is not an insult people! I have to have this conversation with my mother because she uses a word in Spanish that means gay to insult people or to point out that they are idiots, this is a woman that has always been surrounded by gay friends, one of my first baby sitters was a gay man, yet she continues to use this word as a slur. I explain to her why it is so wrong and she tells me that everyone says it and it’s not meant as an insult. I ask her to substitute a word like heterosexual or straight instead and she tries to pretend like she doesn’t understand my point. It drives me bonkers. Enough, already! I mean that is just so heterosexual!!!

That’s it for this edition of I Comment Therefore I Am.

Do you give good comment? Wanna play along? Go forth, spread the comment love, and turn it into a post (I keep a draft post open while I read blogs throughout the week).  Recycle, reuse, and reduce my friends; it’s the wave of the future.

Oh and feel free to comment on my comments otherwise how will I know that you exist.

If you play along please link back and/or post the button below. Spread the love, spread the love!
