This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Mango Money. All opinions are 100% mine.
I have to be perfectly honest, when I first heard about Mango Mastercard Prepaid Card I just wasn’t all that excited about it and did not think it would be worth telling you about it. I had some preconceived notions about prepaid cards. I thought they were a bit on the shady side, sort of like check cashing places that charge huge fees. Not to mention, I have a debit card and credit cards why would I need to use Mango Money ? Why would you need to use it?
Well, it turns out that 17 million individuals in America are cash-based consumers with no bank accounts. That is a lot of people! Perhaps, one of those 17 million reads my blog. You never know, it’s possible. I became even more interested when I found out that most of these “unbanked” individuals are minorities. How can you live without a bank account?
Mango makes it possible to live without a bank account. There are no hidden fees, overdraft fees, and there is no credit check required. Another great feature is that you can enroll for Mango Money free direct deposit. As the daughter of immigrants, I grew up visiting plenty of check cashing places that basically rip you off. How great is it that if for whatever reason you do not have a bank account, you can have access to your money without paying an exorbitant fee?
Those are great reasons for someone without a bank account to use Mango, but what about me or maybe you? How would we benefit from using a Mango Mastercard Prepaid Card? How about…
- When shopping online it is NOT a good idea to use the debit card that is linked directly to your bank account; it’s just not safe. Sure you can use your credit card, but if you are like me you might be doing your best to lay off the credit. I don’t want to increase my debt and credit cards make it far too easy for me to spend more than I actually have.
- Some people give their kids credit cards to use, when the time comes I will be more inclined to give my kids a prepaid card. I could put their allowance on it and they could learn to manage their money in the digital age. Might sound crazy, but it is absolutely a skill that they will need.
- If you send money “back home”, Mango makes it super easy to transfer money from one card to another. If you are helping parents, kids, or you yourself are being helped out financially using Mango is far easier than wiring money.
Anyway, you get the point. I’m glad I found out more about Mango Money because it made me realize that they do provide a valuable service. I had no idea.

I also assumed that pre-paid cards were just another way to rip off consumers. I’m glad you did a little investigative work and changed my mind – at least with this card. I’ll have to look into it. Thanks!

I have a prepaid credit card and love it. I feel much safer travelling with prepaid because I only put a little on it at a time, plus I much prefer buying things online with it as well.

I assumed the same that it was a scam of sorts. But I like all the reasons you would use them for. Now having a teenager that drives I hate giving her my card incase she needs gas etc….plus she leaves for college next year and it would be a good thing to have. Thanks for doing the leg work off to check it out.

Very cool! I appreciate the info. And, for the record, it’s not crazy–I did it for both my kids, and I think it’s smart!

Mango has been a pretty cool card for me so far. I’m signed up on direct deposit and avoid ATM fees by getting cash back at the grocery stores. I just signed up for RentSafe renter’s insurance on Mango’s site too. It was cheaper than other rates I was quoted. Great post.
