When I was a little girl my mother would make a BIG deal about Easter. The baskets I would get were always fantastic and there was always a new Easter outfit to be worn, but if I’m being completely honest, which I am, I have to tell you something that will not please my mother.
Come in closer so she doesn’t hear…I never got to choose my own Easter clothing and I REALLY, REALLY wanted to have a say in what I wore. So this year, because both of my girls are old enough to care, I decided to start a brand new Easter tradition: I took them shopping so that they could put together their own spring look.
I’m not gonna lie, there was a part of me that wanted to butt in and tell my girls what to get because what if they chose some crazy outfits that made them look like they got dressed in the dark? However, it turns out that both my daughters have an innate sense for fashion. They have VERY different tastes, but they both picked out outfits that suit them perfectly and look great.

Here’s a little video I took while shopping at Kohl’s:

This is what my youngest put together. ¿Qué cute, qué no?
Luna Pie chose this lovely floral Sonoma Goods for Life dress and then built the rest of her look around it.
I love how put together she looks without being all matchy-matchy.
While Luna Pie loves her some girly looks my eldest, Put Pie, is more into a sporty look as you can see by her choices.
My mother never would have let me pick out an outfit like this for Easter because she would think it is too casual, but I love that my eldest is developing her own sense of style that isn’t based on conventional ideas of “dressing up” for girls and has more to do with who she is as a person.
She’s happiest when she feels comfortable and like she can MOVE any which way she wants to.
Didn’t they do a great job? I think so.

Oh, and in case you are worried that mama didn’t get anything for herself, fear not! I got myself a little sumthin’ sumthin’ too.
I saw this LC Lauren Conrad open-front blazer while I was at the store, but they didn’t have it in my size so I promptly ordered it as soon as I got home. The color, cameo rose, is what got me on this one! So fresh and light.
Remember ‘tis the time to shop at Kohl’s for Easter clothing for the whole family.
Did you get to pick out your own Easter outfit when you were a kid?
