Lace Spray Paint Art

DIY Lace spray paint artSponsored_Post_SignDo you guys know what the Pantone color of the year for 2014 is? It is Radiant Orchid. It’s a lovely sort of purplish color, it screams #SpringIsCalling (yes, it uses hashtags before screaming). I wanted to find a way to bring it into my home without having to commit to painting the walls with it, even though my purple-hue loving children would love to live in an entire home the color of Radiant Orchid.
Radiant Orchid
Since I didn’t want to paint my walls with it, I thought I could make some art with this color to hang on my walls so they would be more radiant. I am not much of a painter, but that isn’t going to stop me from making art. I will not be limited by my artistic abilities dang it. If I want to make art, art I will make.

I decided I was in the mood for something lacy. Then I thought black lace over the Radiant Orchid would be kind of punk rock, I’m not very punk rock, but I wasn’t going to let that stop me either.

How to make spray paint lace art
I gathered my materials:

  • Sample size of Pantone Wild Orchid
  • Sponge brushes
  • Valspar Color Radiance in Black Spray Paint
  • A white canvas
  • A piece of lace large enough to cover the canvas
  • A mask so I wouldn’t inhale the spray paint fumes

Then I got to work.

I painted the canvas with the Radiant Orchid color using a sponge brush. I did three coats total.

Once the canvas was dry, I laid a piece of lace over it. Covered my face with a mask, and spray painted the canvas over the lace. I only did one layer of spray paint and I didn’t apply it all that evenly, just kind of punk rock willy nilly. I removed the lace as soon as I was done spray painting

I let the paint dry over night and the next day, I had some art to put up on one of my walls.

I’ll tell you what, I really dig it and it looks better in person than in photographs. I’m definitely going to try this spray painting technique again. It’s so easy and you get an awesome pattern on canvas with very little effort. Shoot, I’m feeling so punk rock right now, I want to lay some lace on my sofa and spray paint it too.

Side note, the Shareholic widget is acting up a bit. It shows up 2x below your post and once vertically on the left?? Strange.

I think I was able to fix it by unistalling and re-installing.
