My brother is living with my mother again and my mother tells me that he’s not easy to live with…HA!…Tell me something I don’t know. I’m not saying that my brother is hard to live with, I’m saying…Who isn’t hard to live with? Living with others is hard.
Seriously, if I weren’t me, I wouldn’t want to live with me. Too many rules! Too demanding.
I love the people I live with, but that doesn’t mean that they are easy to live with. Oh no! My kids, delightful as they are, can really get on my nerves. My husband, fantabulous as he is, has not mastered the art of reading my mind. Still, my current housemates (children and husband) are way easier to live with than past roommates.
There was the one that insisted on using my towel to dry himself off and then when I’d reach for it after my shower and it was wet, I’d want to wretch and I’d have to shake myself dry like a dog.
There was the one who thought buying a hat was more urgent than paying rent on time.
There was the one who would never get off the phone. Never. This was before everyone and their grandma had a cellphone and if I wanted to make a call, I’d have to walk to the corner and use the payphone.
There have been many who never saw fit to buy toilet paper. Apparently their a$$es were self-cleaning. NOT!
Don’t gets me started on the roommates that leave the kitchen sponge soaking wet in the sink and it gets that horrid rotten sponge smell that sticks to my hands for half an eternity when I unwittingly grab it. Pull it out of the sink and wring it out!
If you don’t want to deal with others, you could always live alone. If living alone isn’t an option, I believe the answer to living with others and putting up with their horrid habits is to remember that they are putting up with your horrid habits. If you think you don’t have any horrid habits, you are sadly mistaken.

I do currently live alone and I’m enjoying it immensely. I’m not anti-social, but it’s nice to have a sanctuary all to myself at the end of a long, stressful day.
Oh man could I ADD some thoughts to the “downfalls” of others in rooming situations – – – but I’ll leave it at what you said and just contribute a hearty AMEN!

What’s the saying people that live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones! My hubby chews so loud and breathes heavy while sleeping….I apparently snore on occasion….what!! Have a wonderful weekend!
Is anyone easy to live with? My husband drives me crazy with the little things. When the toilet paper runs out, he will get out a new roll, BUT he will put it onto of the empty roll. Why can’t the extra step of removing the old roll and put the new one on? 1/2 the step has already been done..
Having said that, he does have good qualities. 🙂

Hilarious! I haven’t had too many roomies, but some of my sibs drove me crazy (because they were truly mentally ill, it just wasn’t diagnosed yet). My friends saw a change in me when I got my own place. The stress of handling everything on my own financially was calming compared to my previous existence…
I had one who was bullemic and didn’t wipe up where she splattered – she also dyed my fuzzy pink bath mat when she dyed her hair black. Classic.
For sure, living with others is not easy.
I can’t imagine what someone would feel like if they lived with me. I like living alone, but I also like the fact that I get houseguests a lot. They come, make me happy, then make me mad, and then they leave. Works for me.
I tried to comment earlier but my iPad was acting up. I love this post! You are so right that we can be just as ‘ugly’ as we think other people are being. I’ve also had my share of ‘ugly’ roommates, an awesome one…and then family. I had to laugh about the sponge sitting in water because my kids do that. I need to remember that at least they are doing dishes, right???

Tell me about it. We used to live with the inlaws and I learned to tiptoe around the house for a full 3 years before we were finally able to afford our own place!
Ooh Lord. Yes, living with people is really hard. Roommates can be horrible. That’s why I can only live with my sisters. The cool thing about living with your kids and husband is you can tell them, they’re driving you crazy and to stop. My husband is learning (slowly) that he can’t make a mess and expect me to be happy about it.
I wouldn’t want to live with me either…
I would find it very hard to live with someone else after being so adjusted to the habits of my family.
Who, me? Bad habits?! Come on….
My first roommate used to put half-empty glasses of milk under her bed and leave them there (until I followed the stench and collected them and found the milk to be solid. She, too, had an aversion to paying bills…We learn a lot from roommates, don’t we?
