I was sitting on the MUNI platform waiting for my train. I could hardly breath because there was so much liquid in my lungs. I’m embarrassed to say I had thrown up in a trash can a few minutes before you showed up because I was gagging from all the mucus. Gross, I know.
You took one look at me, walked over, and asked if I needed help getting home. I am not like Blanche DuBois, I have never depended on the kindness of strangers. I am afraid of strangers. This time I had no choice. I looked up and nodded yes.
You helped me get on the train. You didn’t even make me talk or ask me what was wrong. You just sat next to me. When it was time for me to get off the train, you held me up as I walked to my bus stop, you got on the bus with me, and you took me all the way home. Then you were gone. I have no idea if I even said thank you.
Many months later, maybe years (I can’t remember), I was standing on a corner and you drove by in a pick-up truck; we made eye contact; you waved; my face lit up and I waved back. I hope that you could tell from my face and my wave how immensely grateful I am for your act of kindness. You took care of me when I had no one else. I may not know your name, but I will never ever forget you, my Friend.

Wow.. what an amazing human being. I wonder if he is the same man who helped me many years ago – I was in Salt Lake City when the only tornado ever hit that town.. I was in a taxi coming from the airport and the taxi driver made me get out and WALK. He was worried about his wife and baby and just DROPPED me out … a man saw me struggling with my luggage, walking downtown amidst downed power lines and asked me if I needed help. He took my suitcase and walked 2 miles with me to my hotel which had been damaged by the tornado. He waited with me until the hotel clerk made sure I had a room – then he just walked away… I never even knew his name…
There are wonderful, angels out there, disguised as people. Sounds like you and I both met one..

That is a very nice story, the kindness of strangers can be so warming to the soul because we often only hear about the hugely craptastic things people do, we do not hear/read enough about the small but wonderful things people do for each other.
And I don't think I've told you yet…I love the new blog look:D

Yep, there are good people in the world. I'm glad you met one in your time of need.
Once there was this little elderly lady at a bus stop. I didn't think too much of her being at the bus stop as it was a nice day and a busy shopping area. My friend and I walked by her and said hello and went into the cafe to have lunch. When we came out she was still there and it was then we noticed she was holding a small box.
We asked her if she was waiting for a bus or if she was just enjoying her day. She said she wasn't enjoying the day because she just picked up 'Tiger' from the vet. Tiger had kept her company for 15 or so years and needed to be put down and she had to return to the vet office to pick up his ashes. She said she was waiting for the bus. So, we called the bus company on our cell phone and turns out that bus was not going to come at all because it was broken or something……….I asked the lady if she wanted us to take her somewhere and all she wanted was for us to take her to the next bus stop. I wanted to buy her a snack or at least something to drink but she refused. Anyway, I took her to her next bus stop (this bus was supposed to come in 10 minutes) and made sure she was okay then went about my day. I really wish I would have encouraged her a bit more to take her all the way home.

How sweet and nice of him to take care of you like that. Sadly, I don't know if I'd do that for a stranger…..A friend or a family member yes, a stranger, I don't honestly know….
I'm so glad he helped you!
Hugs!!

Isn't it wonderful that there are people out there who will help a stranger?

Sometimes God sends angels in the guise of fellow human beings.
Back when I lived in San Francisco, before I had a cell phone — yes, I remember the days before cellular phones (when they were called “cellular”). I was headed south on 280 by myself when I had a blow-out on the freeway in the left lane with no shoulder. I managed to get across the freeway to the exit (I can't remember the name but it is a 180 degree exit that deposits you into nowhereville.) I was followed by a car with two men in it. I'll be honest, at first that scared me. But when it became clear that their intentions were nothing but absolutely honorable, I was thanking God. Because no one knew where I was. I was miles from either home or work and I wasn't sure how to get anywhere. But these two angels changed my tire and stayed until they saw me safely back on the road. I don't now what would have happened without them. I was driving my father's car and didn't know about wheel locks. I would never have been successful in changing that tire. So I say God bless them and your gentleman on the train.
