From Total Loss to New-To-Me Car That’s Boss

New-To-Me Car

Certified New-To-Me Car

A few weeks ago I shared how my husband and I were spending a Saturday without our kids celebrating our 10th year wedding anniversary when the celebration was cut short because someone crashed into our parked car. We found out because a kind neighbor came by to let us know. The woman who hit our car was, of course, mortified.

She was nice and didn’t mean to hit our car, I guess she lost control of hers trying to avoid hitting another car. Long story short: mierda happens and this time it happened to us. Our car had to be towed and the process of dealing with the woman’s insurance provider and figuring out what would happen began.

Almost a month later, we get hit (pun intended) with the news that the repairs for our cars are so expensive that it is being considered a total loss. We weren’t done paying for our car so I had no idea if there would be any money left over after paying off our car loan with the insurance settlement to be able to buy another car.

Welp, we ended up with enough money to put a down payment on the new-to-us certified 2016 Toyota RAV4 that you see above. OMG, I was so sad to lose my other car, but I gots to say that this car is fantastic and I am so grateful that we were able to find it and have money from the settlement for the down payment. Oh, and the deal we got?! Let’s just say that someone accidentally listed it for the wrong price, but their mistake was our BIG BREAK. Good lookin’ out, Universe!

And when we financed this car we made sure to get GAP (guaranteed auto protection) insurance, which covers the difference between your car’s depreciated value and what you actually owe on your loan if your car is totaled or stolen because mierda happens and we just want to make sure we cover our behinds. Can you imagine having your car totaled or stolen and still having to pay off the loan? No thank you.

Sounds like a very stressful time but I am glad it all worked out. I can totally understand the worry about the loan, I am glad my car is an old banger and I don’t have that problem
