As a Lowe’s Creative Ideas Network member I am presented with a monthly Mission Possible. October’s mission, which I chose to accept reads:
Let your imagination run wild this month and use your Lowe’s gift card do whatever project you like this month.
So I considered my options. I let my imagination run a few laps and what I really want to do is refinish a dresser that I love, but has been buried in my back storage area for some time now. What I really don’t want to do is sand the dresser before I paint it, so I’m going to try using Zinsser Bulls Eye Water-Base Primer & Sealer. It claims to stick to all surfaces without sanding and works with all topcoats. I also got a can of Valspar ULTRA Paint + Primer tinted to Cracked Pepper in satin finish. I realize I don’t need the paint to also be a primer since I’m already using a primer, but I got this one because it is low odor and zero VOC.
Here are some shots of the dresser that stands to benefit from my efforts. I love it for a variety of reason, especially it’s provenance. I bought it from a friend who has moved far away, the dresser reminds me of her. However, I do not love the finish on it.
It’s difficult to get a shot of the full dresser because my backroom is so small. I took one more before picture of it with my cellphone so you could see most of it. I told you it was buried.
I’m really hoping I can give it a facelift that will make me want to pull it out of the backroom and into the bedroom. I’ll be sure to show you the results when I’m done.

I’m working on my knitting/craft room. My husband and I just repainted a shelf for my yarn. I have a wooden chest I need to refinish, I would use the gift certificate on that and some twinkle lights. No room is complete without twinkle lights 🙂

We bought a fixer-upper, and there are so many things that need to be done around this house that I’m not sure what to pick. Wow. What fun. I am crazy about DIY stuff – and I am wishing I lived in the US now 😀 But never mind. I love being inspired to do something! I have a longish cabinet – about 3.5 feet tall and 6 feet wide – which I use to divide my living room into the sitting and dining area. Its back is just primer-ed white. I am thinking of painting it – and also the dining area wall. I am thinking happy thoughts right now. Vidur has a ten-day vacation and we’re having fun organizing his stuff. He does his thing, I do mine and what I love most are the conversations.
