My husband took us to the Pulgas Water Temple recently. I never even knew it existed. Basically, it is a stone temple dedicated to water and it’s beautiful. One of the signs there reads:
Here on October 28, 1934, an eager audience celebrated the roar of the Hetch Hetchy water as it rushed to the Peninsula for the first time. An adequate supply of high-quality drinking water was finally a reality for the Bay Area.
The Pulgas Water Temple was designed by William Merchant in the Beaux Arts style. The fluted columns with Corinthian capitals are a nod to the ancient architecture of Greeks and Romans because their engineering methods were used to create the Hetch Hetchy water system.
It’s a lovely place that just begs to be photographed. If I were more enterprising, I would bring a clothing rack full of fancy clothes and assorted props to rent out to visitors for fun photo
