Qué!? Qué!? For Free…

At the risk of embarrassing myself, I am going to be totally honest and admit to you that when I got the email inviting me to be a media guest of General Mills for the re-launch of QueRicaVida.com in Miami I was more than a little skeptical. I had a friend visiting from LA when I got the invite and I rolled my eyes as I read it and said, “They must think the name of my blog is Unknown Miami, not Unknown Mami; it happens all the time.” Fortunately, I checked with Liz from Thoughts of a Mommy and she told me it was for reals. When I said, “But it’s in Miami.” Liz responded, “Mujer, they pay for your trip.” Qué!? Qué!? Well, if it’s for free you better believe I’m going!!! And go I did.

It was a wonderful experience. I got to learn about the new and improved Qué Rica Vida website, which now features a partnership with BabyCenter.com and is a great resource for Spanish-speaking familias. I also got to see the lovely sights of Miami and mingle with fellow Latina Bloggers. Here are a few highlights of the trip:

Damas de Jalisco: All-female mariachi in Miami
We were serenaded by the all female mariachi, Damas de Jalisco! I’d never seen an all-female mariachi band and these women were wonderfully talented and charming.

On May 20th, which happened to be my birthday, we celebrated the re-launch of QueRicaVida.com in a talk-show-style format with giveaways and celebrity appearances. Now, I don’t mean to be a name dropper, but there were iconic celebrities at this event. Celebrities so well-know that even children would recognize them!

Sprout
That’s right, it’s Sprout! You know Sprout, he’s friends with the Jolly Green Giant. Oh and that’s the bee from Honey Nut Cheerios! And if you look closely at the left hand side of this picture you can see an eyeball, bright red hair, and a green hat that belong to Lucky from Lucky Charms.

Hamburger-Helper-Hand
I was particularly excited about meeting the Hamburger Helper Hand. He was so down to earth and friendly. He had a smile for everyone.

All in all, it was a spectacular experience that I will always remember fondly, especially for the new friendships made.

Amigas
I even let my paper bag slip a bit, so I could drink some wine, when I hung out with mis nuevas amigas from Mami & The Multiples, Soy Fashionista, and Ahorros Para Mama.

So thank you General Mills and Que Rica Vida for including me in this wonderful event. I wish you continued success.
