Week 2 of My Shelter In Place Travels

Shelter in Place Travels Week 2 Claudya Martinez

Greetings from San Francisco! How are you holding up? A year ago could you have imagined that we’d end up here? In the midst of a pandemic? That traveling could not only be dangerous to your health but also dangerous to the health of everyone else? Things being as they are, the only traveling that I have been doing and will be doing any time soon is in my imagination.

Ever since San Francisco officially asked all residents to stay home in order to help slow the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19), I have been taking flights of fancy all over the world. Here are some of the places I’ve visited during the second week of my shelter in place travels …

On Days 6 and 7, I went to Japan.

Days 6 and 7 of shelter in place in San Francisco: Today's and yesterday's imaginary travels take me to Japan, where I enjoyed the extravagant beauty of cherry blossoms. Every year, people from all over the world head to Japan to see the cherry blossoms in full bloom. This year, the cherry blossoms in Japan will not get the usual crowds of admirers because we're in the midst of a pandemic, but it's OK, they will still bloom and be beautiful. They understand that their beauty does not depend on having eyes on them and they would much rather have us all stay home to help reduce the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19). They promise to bloom again and again for many years to come. I know this because they whispered all of this into my ears. They send their love! ⠀ ⠀ If you missed my "travel in place" visits to Mexico, Italy, England, France and Egypt, visit my profile to check 'em out. And stay tuned for my continuing imaginary travels while we all cope with this pandemic and shelter in place. ⠀ ⠀ Also, I'm taking requests. Where would you like to see me travel while I shelter in place? Let me know in the comments and I'll see if I can make it happen. #shelterinplacetravel

On Day 8, I went to India.

Day 8 of shelter in place in San Francisco: Today's imaginary travels take me to India, where I thought I would volunteer to do some yard work at the Taj Mahal. It's obvious that a place as magnificent as this can only persevere throughout the ages because of the meticulous efforts of many. May I suggest that we use this as inspiration to care for each other just as meticulously during this coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic so that we too may preserve? ⠀ ⠀ If you missed my "travel in place" visits to Japan, Mexico, Italy, England, France and Egypt, visit my profile to check 'em out. And stay tuned for my continuing imaginary travels while we all cope with this pandemic and shelter in place. ⠀ ⠀ Also, I'm taking requests. Where would you like to see me travel while I shelter in place? Let me know in the comments and I'll see if I can make it happen. #shelterinplacetravels

On Day 9, my youngest daughter and I went to Thailand.

Day 9 of shelter in place in San Francisco: Today's imaginary travels take me and my youngest daughter to the coast of Thailand, where we held our breath underwater and admired the coral reefs. Honestly, lately it feels like we are all holding our breath waiting to see what’s on the other side of this coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Waiting to see how many of us will literally be left breathing. These are scary times and all we can do is try and take care of each other by slowing the spread of the virus. Stay home if you can and use your imagination to escape. Do it for everyone on this beautiful planet of ours. ⠀ If you missed my "travel in place" visits to India, Japan, Mexico, Italy, England, France and Egypt, visit my profile to check 'em out. And stay tuned for my continuing imaginary travels while we all cope with this pandemic and shelter in place. ⠀ ⠀ Also, I'm taking requests. On Day 10, I went to Antartica.

Day 10 of shelter in place in San Francisco: Today's imaginary travels take me to Antartica, where I got some side-eye from the locals. Once I explained to them that I wasn’t really there and that I’m actually at home sheltering in place in an effort to slow the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19), they went about their business. ⠀⠀ If you missed my "travel in place" visits to Thailand, India, Japan, Mexico, Italy, England, France and Egypt, visit my profile to check 'em out. On Day 11, I went to Colombia.

Day 11 of shelter in place in San Francisco: Today's imaginary travels take me to Salento, Quindío in Colombia at the suggestion of my wonderful friend @limaraca. It’s beautiful here! Look at all these colors, they give me life. Speaking of life, I’m only traveling virtually at the moment because I’m sheltering in place and doing what I can to help slow the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) and save lives. Cheers to our collective health! ⠀ If you missed my "travel in place" visits to Antartica, Thailand, India, Japan, Mexico, Italy, England, France and Egypt, visit my profile to check 'em out.
