Sundays Are Perfect for a Family Bike Ride in San Francisco

On Sundays, a big chunk of Golden Gate Park gets closed off to traffic and becomes a carless haven. It’s freakin’ awesome. Without cars to get in the way, it’s the perfect place to go for a family bike ride.

Don’t have a bike? No problem.

Sometimes I put on a pretty yellow dress and pretend that I’m going for a bike ride on one of those red rental bikes I see all over San Francisco. I don’t actually go on the bike ride, but I do force my daughter to take a picture of me in front of said bike while my other daughter and husband wait impatiently. I smile like everything is easy breezy while the photo is taken, then we all go back to being grouchy because we’re hangry AF and on our way to having lunch, but I had to stop and pretend that I’m the kind of person that puts on pretty yellow dresses and goes for rides on red bikes when really I’m the kind of person that puts on pretty yellow dresses and walks with her hangry family to have lunch so they can all eat and get back to being in a good mood. Then when we’re in a good mood after lunch, we walk back home and take more pictures of me in a pretty yellow dress pretending to do things that I don’t really do. Good times! #thetruthbehindthepicture

If you don’t have a bike or are visiting the city and didn’t bring your bike, you could always rent one. Nowadays it’s super easy to find bike share stations throughout the city.

I love going on bike rides.

If you ever see me riding a bike, chances are I will have a goofy smile on my face. I can’t help it, going on a bike ride makes me all kinds of happy. Still, I’m not that great of a bike rider, which is why I like riding in an area free of cars.

Before we had kids, my husband and I would go on bike rides to the beach all the time. Then we had the girls and I was too chicken to ride with them as my passengers, but now they are old enough to ride on their own.

This holiday season we invested in bikes for the whole family.

Such a great investment. We all picked a bike that we love and now whenever we can, Sundays we go for a family bike ride. We laugh, we bond, and we come home tired in a good way.

Also, helmets are a must!

I am riding around the internet on my new bike collecting wishes. What would you like me to wish for on your behalf?

Allow me to be a mom and tell you that you should most definitely wear a helmet when you go for a bike ride even if there are no cars around. And none of this, “But, helmets look bad on me.” Helmets aren’t really flattering on anyone, but they are infinitely more attractive than a head injury. WEAR A HELMET!

I have not checked out your blog in a long time. Great pics. Your kids keep growing bigger. Yes having an area that cyclist doesn’t need to worry about street traffic is much more relaxing. I recall a few visits to Amsterdam where I was amazed by the combination of bicycles, cars and trams/buses I had to maneuver to cross the street.
