Hola Chulas y Chulos! Hope all is well with you and your pompis. My chancla and I have put together another edition of The Flying Chancla Report and it’s perfect for you hijos de la chanclada.
- I am DYING over here, DYING! Why? Because Erik Estrada is playing El Chapo Guzmán in the film “Prism” written and directed by Tony Tarantino (Quentin’s dad). Who would have ever thought that Erik Estrada’s acting career would take him from “CHiPs” all the way to El Chapo?I’m intrigued and amused. I wonder what the real life El Chapo thinks of this casting choice. In case you think my chancla and I are totally making this up, check out the image that Tarantino shared on Facebook. The film is set to release this year on December 25.
- Speaking of “CHiPs,” what do you call a cholo crossed with a hipster? A “chipster,” according to one of the cholos in this video. Feast your eyes on cholos getting hipster makeovers.

- My chancla and I just started binge-watching “Gilmore Girls” on Netflix. We never watched the show when it was actually airing, but when we heard that Netflix was doing a revival, it seemed like a binge was in order so we could continue binging come revival airing time. Pues, we’ve been enjoying the show and my two daughters who are 5 and 6 years old like watching it too. This is a BIG deal because the show has no cartoons, people. We are watching a show together that does not have cartoons on it and I’m thrilled.
Anyway, I tell you all this because Alexis Bledel who plays Rory on the show is some kind of real life ninja. She managed to keep her pregnancy and the birth of her child a secret. How is that even possible in Hollywood?Bledel who is married to actor Vincent Kartheiser (they met on the set of “Mad Men” where they played lovers) gave birth to a baby boy last fall. Last FALL, you guys! Do you see what I mean about the serious ninja skills? I am amazed. The only reason anyone knows about it is because Scott Patterson, who plays Luke on “Gilmore Girls,” did an interview with Glamour and said about Bledel,She’s really blossomed as a woman and now she’s a proud new mother and married and happy. I remember her as an 18-year-old kid, fresh out of college coming into Hollywood and being a little overwhelmed. She’s just the most likable, intelligent person and adorable human being. She hasn’t changed at all. She looks the same. We’re comparing notes because my son is about a year and a half older than her young son. I’m showing her photos and videos and what to expect. We’re just really enjoying each other’s company.

- Let’s end with this awesome piece by poet, actor and writer Carlos Andrés Gómez that made me and my chancla stand up and clap because his answer to “What does Hispanic look like?” is EVERTHING and then some. Watch this shizz! The man speaks TRUTH and he does it artfully. BRAVO!
That’s it for this week’s The Flying Chancla Report. I love you mucho and remember, spread love, not chanclazos!
