My mother is a very stylish woman. As long as I can remember she has taken joy in putting together outfits. She doesn’t worry about “rules” and dresses to please herself. I love that about her and I’m sure she is the reason that I love fashion.
What you didn’t know that I LOVE fashion, that I’m a nut for clothing and accessories? It’s true. I don’t write about it much and frankly for the last couple of years I’ve been getting my frump on. My outfits have been dull and uninspired. Lately, though I’ve decided to leave my frump behind. I’m ready to express myself through fashion again.
Before I had kids, I loved to go shopping just for fun. Looking through racks of clothing was somehow soothing even if I wasn’t going to buy anything. I just liked getting ideas and seeing what was out there. I no longer have the luxury of doing that, but my good friend the internet allows me to see what’s out there even when I’m not out there.
Right now, I’m looking for clothing that allows for breastfeeding. I’m really diggin’ some dresses I saw by bcbg. Dresses are great; they can make me feel so put together with so little effort.
I’ve also been checking out some shoes online.Years ago my mother bought the most awesome pair of modified platformy-mary jane-style bcbg shoes that I have always coveted because they would look so good with most of the dresses I already own. Of course I can’t find that style anymore, but I can always find a new pair of shoes to fall in love with.
It feels good to be excited about getting dressed again. I know many people think fashion is frivolous, pointless, or superficial, but I think fashion is fun, creative, and just another way to be an individual. The last couple of years I wasn’t excited about dressing because I wasn’t excited about being me. It seems I’m starting to be excited about me again and I want to celebrate it by dressing the part. The best thing is that the paper bag I wear over my head goes with just about anything.

The last line…priceless!!!
I like your mother I have to say.
I guess I love fashion. It makes me smile…
I love the effect that a dress, or a pair of pants can have on the way you might see yourself. Despite how much fashion deals with surface, it’s the effect it has on the way you feel as opposed to the way you look that makes it so amazing to me at least.
Happy Tuesday!

Sometimes a dress new shoes and an accessory or two makes all the difference in how you feel each day!

The bag really makes you and your little one in the photo look just alike too.

the paper bag is very stylish but I have no idea what the style would be called. Urban something I guess. Shoes – don’t have a clue – I’m not even sure what a mary-jane shoe is but I’ll assume it has nothing to do with smoking mary-janes. My shoe knowledge comes from youtube – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wCF3ywukQYA
I’m sure you have seen “shoes” before, but it’s still funny.

HA!!! The paperbag goes with anything. Yep.

I say go for it! I totally agree how the simple things can make you feel so good. I also love Mary Janes, but I have to wear the flat kind. Sketchers puts out a few cute ones, and Footsmart.com has some cute styles, too! I love that your paper bag goes with everything! You are so lucky! Good to see you moving about!

I like to look even if I don’t buy. It’s really fun to see what’s current!

Oh, I remember when I had my daughter all the dresses were spaghetti straps and low cleavage. Absolutely no room for enormous chunky breast feeding bras. But then again, what was I thinking? Breastfeeding in a dress? I had a lot to learn. It’s nice to hear you’ve got your shopping spirit up and running again!! Big hugs to you and your bubba!

Front opening buttons are where it’s at for breastfeeding. Carry a long, light scarf or shawl for discretion as well. I never minded feeding in whatever form, but sometimes, misguided people take it otherwise, God help them, and you don’t need them in your life. Not right now!

When I was working I was always “put together” the last 5 years… ehhh not so much. I definitely need to get back into the habit, I really miss it!

Well, I rarely get excited about getting dressed anymore. I think it’s because my underwear is now over 10 years old. Some of my socks, I have no idea. I would wear a top that I could breastfeed in though.

Pop in on me out here on the Pondersoa, you’ll find me in leggins, a tee and ponytail. The wild~eyed cattle could care less if I wear make~up but baby before I get behind the wheel of my car I will be dressed, made~up and accessorized! Heeehehehe!!! It’s just the way I fly….
Fashion is and expression of oneself. Kinda like art or speech. I don’t think it’s one bit silly!!!
God bless ya and may the luck of the Irish rain on you today!!! :o)

Yep, dressing up is a good self-image and mood boost. Of course at the moment, I’m wearing sweats and a hoodie, but I can so relate.

Good for you, nothing like getting excited about buying some clothes and liking yourself.

Haha! Love this post. I am about to pop, and it’s hard to feel all glam when you’re waddling like a duck. But I am trying to leave that frump behind NOW too! Haha! 😉 All the best with your shopping expeditions that will come!

Time to get your groove on! It is not trivial to want to feel good about yourself. You know I love fashion but like you, I have recently let that slide. I am coming out of a slump. A pretty big slump. Basically a case of I-Suck-i-tis. Yesterday, I bought a new face cream and today I put on makeup. For me, that was a step out of the darkness. I love that you are loving you and I can’t wait to see the clothes that reflect it.
P.S. Don’t know if it’s still true, but I got FABULOUS things at the United Way store on South Van Ness. FABULOUS!!!
Lots of love to you, Mami.

I’m in your boat. I’m starting to get out there again and actually enjoy the hunt.
Speaking of BCBG, I had the loveliest pair of platform ’40s style peep toe shoes, they were so comfy, I loved them and wore them to death. I still miss those shoes. Thanks for the link, it’s nice to at least look.

Alas, I was born without the fashion gene, much to my mother’s chagrin. I need the paper bag more than you because I truly look the part of a bag lady most days.

I’m certainly not a fashion maven, but I would love to have a personal stylist! When I shop, it’s out of necessity, not for the heck of it. I do have a rich friend who lets me wear her stuff whenever I have a special occasion; it’s awesome to play dress-up at her house! 🙂

I love clothes, shoes, purses etc. but I have gained so much weight that all my cute clothes are just hanging in the closet. I hope I can get busy and lose it so I can wear them. Good for you for looking for dresses. It will be fun to wear them!

Running around town on errands I usually forget about looking fashionable; it’s not practical. My solution> focus on hair, make-up, and simple accessories. Sometimes it’s the little things that make a difference on how you feel about yourself.
