Last year when I found out that Danny Trejo opened Trejo’s Coffee & Donuts in Los Angeles, I just knew that one day I’d bite into one of his donuts. I am happy to report that I’ve bitten into 11 different flavors of his donuts and OH MY GATOS are they good.
It all went down during a road trip from San Francisco to San Diego. We made an overnight stop in LA to spend time with friends and when they asked us what we wanted to do I might have eagerly mentioned that I wanted to try something, anything from Trejo’s Coffee & Donuts. The next morning as I lingered on the blowup mattress, my husband and one of our hosts got their early bird pompis up and came back with a box filled with a dozen of Trejo’s finest donuts.

Now, when I think of Danny Trejo, I think of the badass Latino actor with an unforgettable face and a style I saw on the streets growing up, but not so much on bonafide Hollywood stars. But with his resume, which includes credits in films like “Machete,” “Bubble Boy,” “Spy Kids” and so many more there is no denying that Trejo is a Hollywood star. That in itself is impressive, but then you throw in his backstory, which includes a jail stint and now his success as restauranteur–he also owns Trejo’s Tacos, Trejo’s Cantina and Trejo’s Truck, a taco truck–and you wonder if there is anything this man can’t do.
But back to the donuts. Seriously, these donuts are the best I’ve ever had. My particular favorites were the Maple Pig, the Margarita, the Dulce de Leche and the Low Rider. I really wanted to love the Horchata donut, but I didn’t. I mean, it’s a’ight, but a little too sweet for my taste.

I’m thrilled that I got to try the donuts and I promise that whenever I make a trip through LA, I’ll be more than happy to try them all over again. Although, how cool would it be for me if Trejo decided to open a donut place up here in San Francisco? VERY!!!

You’re in Florida? I think he’s thinking of opening some in Florida.
smellyann says
No, we moved from Florida. We’re in Idaho now. I’ll just have to come score some in Cali! 😉

Also, wasn’t sure where to put this comment, but completely agree with you on the “new year, new me” = NO mentality!!

It really is absurdly good. My hubby got to try an horchata coffee that they have and he said it was fantastic.
