5 Ways to Avoid Drinking and Driving On New Year’s Eve

Don't drink and drive on New Year's

I don’t recommend you start the new year with a hangover, but if you must…pretty please remember not to drive when you have been drinking. Yup, you’re going to hear it again: DON’T DRINK AND DRIVE! Don’t do it. I promise you that regardless of what you think after a few drinks, you are not a better driver when you are drunk, you may be better at slurring your words or acting a fool, but that’s about it.

There really is no reason to drink and drive because you have options. Here are 5 Ways to Avoid Drinking and Driving on New Year’s Eve:

  1. You could not drink or you could have a designated driver who doesn’t drink (nope, not even a little).
  2. You could just get drunk at home. Once you’re done drinking, you’re already home! The only crashing you’ll do is onto your own bed, sofa, or floor.
  3. Go drink and celebrate somewhere within walking distance of your home.
  4. If you choose to go out, many metropolitan areas with public transit offer free rides on New Year’s Eve. In the San Francisco Bay Area, MUNI and Caltrain offer free rides after a certain hour on New Year’s.
  5. If you went ahead and drove somewhere and someone just forced you to guzzle alcohol, don’t worry you can call AAA and for a Tipsy Tow. You don’t have to be a member, just dial 1-800-222-4357 between the hours of 6pm-6am on New Year’s Eve/Day and they will tow you and your car home for FREE! Go ahead and program that number into your phone NOW before you drink because good luck trying to find it when you’re drunk.

The only reason the following video is funny is because it’s NOT REAL! Do not attempt this in real life.

There is no shame in having a few drinks or a whole bunch of drinks on New Year’s Eve (provided you are of age of course), but it is beyond shameless to drink and drive. Don’t do it. Stay safe and keep others safe to enjoy and prosper in the new year.

I wish you and yours a very HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Me too. I get woken up by the revelers and wonder what all the fuss is about when they could be sleeping. Happy New Year! So happy to have come across and hope to “see” much more of you in the new year.

I’ve already seen three accidents (before 5pm).  Horrible!!!  That is one of the reasons we host a New Years Eve party. I don’t want to drive and I make sure my friends are okay before they go home.
Have a wonderful night! Happy New Year!

It really only takes one way – – – don’t drink and then drive.  Period.

Easy for ME to say – – – I don’t drink and never have. 😉

Are you feeling better, Claudya? Happy 2013 to you. I say a prayer for you every morning 🙂 wishing you and your lovely family happiness. New Year’s eve is a quiet time at home with my folks. I could never get it about being noisy and yelling and being drunk anyway.

Looking forward to a grand year ahead. Love and hugs!

Great post Mami. I know many know the consequences, warning signs are everywhere yet the stubborn few will no matter what stay stubborn. I hope your post reminded those who forgot 🙂

By the way, it’s been a wonderful year – of making more virtual friends from the blogging arena. I’m grateful for all your visits. Wishing you a rewarding 2013.

I was thankful that my immediate family members were all staying at home this New Year’s Eve. Even though my children are in their 30’s I never stop telling them to be safe and to always have a designated driver! It is just crazy to drink and drive.

I am one of those people who do drink only a little and drive. I’m of the opinion a little drink is okay.. I also watch the London fireworks.
