One of the things that I value most in myself is my sense of humor. My sense of humor has helped me through some difficult situations and I pride myself on being able to bring the funny. This week I have been devoid of funny. I’m feeling kicked in the butt by life and the tears are filling the spaces that are usually filled by laughter. It’s not much fun for anyone, but it is what it is. I will get past this and I will be fine, but every once in awhile I can’t find the funny.
I was watching a World Cup match with my husband and brother in law. We don’t have cable and the only channel that shows the World Cup on regular TV is in Spanish. My husband and BIL do not speak Spanish. Anyway a commercial comes on and the following conversation takes place:
Unknown BIL: Is that a commercial for Survivor in Spanish?
Unknown Mami: Yeah.
Unknown BIL: I didn’t know they made Survivor in Spanish, too.
Unknown Mami: Sure, they have all those shows in Spanish. Big Brother, too.
Unknown Papi: They have Survivor in all kinds of languages in all kinds of countries.
Unknown BIL: Huh…
Unknown Papi: You know they have Survivor in North Korea.
Unknown BIL: Really?!
Unknown Papi: Yeah, it’s called: “Every Day”.
Unknown Mami: (laughing)…Did you just make that up?
Unknown Papi: Yup.
Unknown Mami: I’m going to have to blog it.
Although this hasn’t been my favorite week of all time, there has still been some good. For example, I won a giveaway hosted by The Fifty Factor (I love this blog and it’s author, you should too). I won an $80 gift certificate to CSNStores.com!!! Thank you, Joanna.
I’m having feed issues since moving to WordPress. It was suggested that I publish something on the old blog that although not visible is supposed to be redirecting here. Maybe posting something would fix the feed issue. I wasn’t going to share what I posted, but screw it, it’s where I’m at – so here it is:
Chances are you will not see this. I’m publishing it on my old blog to see if that will solve my feed problems. Since you probably won’t see this I am going to take the time to bitch and moan.
I have had a horrid week.
I lost my job.
I’m bickering with my husband.
My iritis is flaring up.
I moved my blog and lost over 400 “followers/subscribers” because I can’t make the feed transfer correctly.
I want to crawl into a hole until I feel whole again.
If you do see this, could you please visit me at my new place:
While there, will you kindly resubscribe or if you are following via Google Friend Connect will you un-follow then re-follow. I know it’s a pain in the ass. I’m feeling like a big pain in everyone’s ass right now.
Have a great weekend and don’t let my bitchin’ get you down.
And that’s all she wrote!
Classic NYer says
Unknown Mami: (laughing)…Did you just make that up?
Unknown Papi: Yup.
Unknown Mami: I’m going to have to blog it.
Thank you, Papi, for finding the funny!
No, really, I'm not being an asshole (okay, fine, I”m being an asshole) and minimizing your issues… I totally feel for you. But the funny is important not because of us out here in the peanut gallery, but because it helps you to cut though all the bullshit and enjoy the hell out of your life.
And it's also entertaining for us out here in the peanut gallery… (okay, now I'm being an asshole).

Okay, not to piss you off or anything, but I just went to make sure we're Google FC friends and found that your widget is missing and has this message on it:
We're sorry…
This gadget is configured incorrectly. Webmaster hint: Please ensure that “Friend Connect Settings – Home URL” matches the URL of this site.
Maybe that will fix it?
Oh, man! I'm so sorry you lost your job and that you're feeling so low.
Congrats on the win! Shopping should help 🙂
unknownmami says
The Google Friend Connect Widget is back up. It wasn't working because I was fiddling with the old blog.
immyyas says
NO wonder you needed to visit my Happy List post! SUCK MAJOR! I hope that things get better, jobs opportunities flourish, bickering with hubby ceases, iritis stops the flare ups & you get to climb out of that darn hole. You are WAY too funny to waste! Oh & I found you (well actually you told me where to look), but now you are 1 less of the over 400 that you lost! See things are looking up 🙂
Rita Lawrence says

I don't consider myself a safety nut as far as my daughter is concerned, but I guess in comparison to how I was raised, to how many of us were raised I am certainly more nutty about safety. A few example…

Okay , now that I re-added .
It is showing the new stuff.

I'm sorry you are having a hard week… and I hope you find your sense of humor and find some laughter in each day of the coming week.

Congrats on the $80 at CSN. That place sells everything!
Sorry you are in a rough spot. Hope the weekend and holiday are fantastically fun!!
Zemeks says
Sounds like you had a very rough week and I know how frustrating working with blogs can be. I'm still trying to get my posts from my new book blog to automatically to to Twitter. My other two do, but no success yet with my book blog.
Stopping by from Friday Fragments.
Nessa says
Bitch on baby. Let it all out to make room for the good stuff that will come again. I changed my feed (Obviously.) Everyone will catch up.
I hope you feel better soon, but you are entitled to wallow a while.
TechnoBabe says
Hi Mami, It looks like I am still a follower, which I certainly am!! So sorry about the job and I look forward to hearing about the new door that will open for you. Hugs.

The unknown puppy is quite funny. Congrats on the win.
As for your sense of humour? Unfailing! The sense of humour is a characteristic of witty persons! And you are one of them.
Have a joyful 4th of July weekend, sweet friend!
Lots of love

Hello Unknown Mami.
Sorry you lost your job this week. You lost the job not who you are. I imagine it is worrying time but somehow better things do come along.
You have each other and health (I know the iritis is not helping) but you'll be fine, I also imagine everybody is also telling you all that. Sorry to repeat the same words.
I still enjoy your sense of humour. Guess what you are blessed you are not living in North Korea. xxx
Lori says
If this doesn't win Favorite Friday Fragmenter, then I don't know what will!
So sorry you've had such a horrible week. But thanks so much for making me laugh!
Enjoy the holiday weekend…
brainella says
You are worth the pain in my ass. 🙂
unknownmami says
You are awesome! Thank you.
unknownmami says
You made me chuckle and you made me happy I am not living in North Korea.
unknownmami says
Thank you for kindness.
I still have the followers, but so many of them aren't getting my feed updates so they are not visiting because they think I'm not posting. I know it's silly, but I've really come to rely on this wonderful online community. I had no idea I would become so attached to virtual people.
unknownmami says
Nessa, thank you for letting me bitch. I'll be fine, I just need to get it out and let go.
BLOGitse says
hahaha, all tv series are here in Casa, was in Egypt and is in Finland!
I hope your weekend will be good – at least it's long! See you on Sunday!

Thank you, Evel.

Oh boy I am only here because I clicked on your reply about never having seen the Kiwi flower before. I am certainly someone one who seems to have lost your feed but I will do as you asked and pop over to resubscribe. I am sorry to hear you have had such an awful week and hope that seeing the beauty of that flower cheered you just a little.
unknownmami says
I actually made my husband look at your whole post because I new how much he would enjoy it. He loves growing things.
Thank you for popping over. I'm sorry about the feed issues.
Lindyloumac says
Ok I am here and hopefully re subscribed!
Meeko Fabulous says
It can only get better, right? 🙂 Sending big hugs your way!
Mary Anne Gruen says
Congratulations on winning the Giveaway! If the publishing didn't work, I hope someone else can come up with a better solution. And as for the job, like Raymonde says, “you lost the job, not who you are.”
No matter what happens with the feed, there will be folks who just can't go long without a posting from Unknown Mami. I never come to your blog because of feeds. I come because I wonder what you've been up to.
unknownmami says
Thank you, friend.

Sorry to hear your week has been sucky. I've been having feed issues with WP since I moved too. One day it's up, next it's down. Not sure why. Not sure I care. My computer blew itself up this week so I've not had a chance to think about other things that suck. Why is that when things suck they suck super bad? Hope you get some good soon!
unknownmami says
I knew it was you. I recognize your email.
pieces of me says
I am so sorry for what you are going through. I feel so much the same right now too. You don't have to be funny and smile all the time, we all need and deserve our time to cry and grieve.
I am still following, with no problem at all with your feed. Don't worry, people will find you!
brian says
sorry you are having such a beastly week…hope that sense of humor finds you soon…it will get better….

I'm so sorry your feed went haywire. I'm glad you sent the email because mine wasn't updating and hard to know when I would have noticed!! I sure wouldn't want to lose you. And I made sure I'm still listed as a follower:)
Gina says
Oh…….I feel so much better! Not that I want you to have a crappy week but I had a crappy week too! Maybe it was national crap week and we just didn't know about it! Phew! Glad the week is over!
I hope things get better! Have a great weekend!
unknownmami says
If my feed is still not updating in your reader or dashboard, I think the only way to fix it is to un-follow and re-follow. I'm sorry if that's the case. The most frustrating thing is that everyone is still listed as a follower, but most people aren't getting the updated feed. Oh well, it's certainly the least of my problems right now.
Thank you for stopping by and have a great 4th!
The Absence of Alternatives says
Unknown Pappi is witty and compassionate just the way you are! You didn't lose me. I am still here. And will always be here. xxoo

I thought it was hilarious, too! I was kinda jealous that he came up with it and not me.
Auntnikki12 says
Gosh, Life really beat up on you this week, didn't it? It will start looking better again, I promise. And yes, I CAN promise that. Heck, you just won $80 dollars didn't you? 🙂
I would send you warm hugs, but I don't know your take on that.
Auntnikki12 says
and by your take, I didnt want you to think I was a manflora or anything, ya know. Did I spell that right? It doesnt look right… Maflora?
Auntnikki12 says
OKay, in case you have no idea what I am talking about, maflora is supposed to be a spanish word. Is it?
Monkey Man says
Thanks for stopping by my Monkey Man blog to let me know about your switch to wordpress. I added you anew and can follow once again. This makes me happy and as my family and friends know – it's all about me.

So sorry it's been a craptastic week. Thanks to Hurricane Alex, we have been insane and I have been away a few days — so sorry! You know I love you, funny ir no. BTW, Unkown Papi is pretty damn funny so let him carry you a bit.

I have no problem seeing you now. I am with you.
That “every day” line was awesome.
Now I am going to have to google what “iritis” is.
Michelle from Honest & Truly! says
Oh, I'm so sorry you've not had a good week. I only knew abut the job thing 🙁 On the plus side, I will tell you that everyone in your house has a great rejoinder. That has to make life a little more fun. And the Spanish tv? It's here, too. Every time I turn it on, my husband's been watching Univision.
VM Sehy Photography says
Sorry to hear your week wasn't that great. I hope things pick up soon. For me, I can see your new posts in my blog list on blogger if I click directly on the title of your blog. But they aren't showing up in the line when I have all blogs chosen. So I don't know what would cause that, and it's not a big deal. Hope you can get all of those followers you lost back. Hang in there.
Betterthancured says
Don't worry, Mami, you will be al right. Take a break from being busy, productive, efficient or even from being funny. Go to the beach, spend time with your family and friends. Little by little, who you really are will prevail and, who knows, you may head in an unexpected, wonderfully fresh direction when you are ready to get back in the game.
unknownmami says
Thank you. I'm feeling a bit lost at the moment.
unknownmami says
If you un-follow and re-follow it will fix it.
Thank you for your kind words and support.
unknownmami says
Cheeseboy, I think you are awesome.
Annie says
Finally I'm here again,yeah!!
Enjoy the weekend.

I never lost you Mami. I made a point to find you. You're worth every moment. And I'll update my blog roll to your new address. Congratulations on your win too.
unknownmami says
Thank you!
unknownmami says
Weird! You must have ESP. I swear I was just thinking about you! I hope you and your family have a wonderful 4th of July.
If my feed isn't updating in your reader or dashboard you might have to un-follow then re-follow. I'll be by soon. I've been having a rough week.
Missliz318 says
I think I made the transfer with you. I'm so sorry to hear of your horrible week. Use your faith, it won't solve everything, but it helps me get through the bad times. Congrats on your move. I love the new look!
FabuLeslie says
Hang in there. What a crappy time for you. You are right about how you will feel better soon and get through it.
marlaahansen says
Oh honey, you did have a horrid week. Listen sister, I can promise you one thing. Tomorrow is a new day and after enough new days go by all your bits will no longer be broken. You can bank on it!!
lisleman says
keep the funny coming.
Really like the N. Korea joke. I was just listening to Wait Wait Don't Tell Me show and they were coming up with articles and titles for the new Al-Qauda magazine. They had funny ones like “Better Bombs and Gardens”.
I'll be back looking for more funny from you.
Heidi says
Someone just sent me this quote the other day:
Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, 'I will try again tomorrow.'
— Mary Anne Radmacher,
American writer
You have courage in spades, my friend. It may be cold comfort now, but it is what will see you through until you get back to the funny. And isn't funny a million times funnier when we've experienced pain? Big hugs to you and I wish there was something I could do to help.
PS–I will re-subscribe in Google Reader.
unknownmami says
Thank you. You just made me cry. In a good way.
unknownmami says
I'll be by in a bit.
I do like WordPress. I wish I would have moved sooner. The feed issues I think are happening on the Blogger re-direct side.
EverydayKathy says
Oh dear… I'm having feed issues and I haven't even moved my blog… I'm thinking I should though… do you like wordpress a lot better then blogger (feed issues aside?)
I'm visiting from FF and I will go and follow from the new site now. This doesn't make up for the 400 others but perhaps it can mean momentum is going in your direction!
My FF post is on my <a href='Everyday Mommy blog. if you are interested!
Hope you have a good weekend.
Joanna Jenkins says
I yiyi Mami, you and I are in the same boat this week. I'm down in the dumps too. So very sorry about your job. That, in a word, sucks. But YOU ROCK and I'm here to testify to any and every one who wants a reference 🙂 Hang in there my friend. I'm cheering you on. so cheer up and go shopping. I'm so glad you won! (Thanks for the shoutout.)
See you Sunday,
xoxoxo
otin says
Sorry about your bad week. The job thing seems to be a common thing these days, unfortunately.
I have seen a lot of people who switched to WordPress have major feed problems. It will all work out eventually.
The conversation was funny, BTW!!
I will try to unfollow and follow again.
Trophymama says
Hey! So glad I found you again. When your blog wasn't updating on my blogroll, I thought you were on a blog-cation. I will be happy to unfollow and refollow. And it is not a pain in my ass at all.
So sorry you are having a lousy week. Boo! I hope things turn around quick.
I was surprised to read that your hubby does not speak Spanish, and I have a question for you. Are you raising your daughter to be bilingual? If so, how are you doing it?
I'm a Spanish speaker as well, and my hubby is not. I try to only speak spanish to my daughter, but it's pretty stinkin' hard when my hubby (or anyone else for that matter) is around.
Just curious if you have a solution to this problem!
Hang in there, Unknown Mami! Your blog makes me smile every time I read it.
unknownmami says
Thank you for finding me! I'm sorry about the feed issues and I truly appreciate you un-following and re-following. I've been awful lonely over here.
I am the only Spanish speaker in my home. My husband is not Latino.
I try to only speak to my daughter in Spanish, but as you know it is very hard. Especially when anyone else is around because sometimes I want my husband to understand what I am saying to my daughter.
If I talk to her in English, I try to repeat it in Spanish and whenever we are together I try to narrate in Spanish. She obviously understands, but so far the few words that she says all happen to be in English, which is frustrating for me. Most of the time the Spanish equivalents are more syllables so I think she goes for whatever is easier.
I also try to read her books in Spanish. I really want her to grow up being able to speak Spanish. There are many family members on my side that don't speak English and I want her to be able to understand them.
I am bilingual, but my English is definitely stronger because I use it more and I was educated in English. I haven't lived in a Spanish speaking household since I was 18. Hopefully, I'm changing that.
My husband just signed up for a Spanish course.

I had you in my Google Reader after you moved, but realized just today that I hadn't seen a new post from you since a week ago, so I clicked over to find out if you were still posting – sure enough! you have several posts.
I'm so sorry I didn't get over here when you were feeling so low. I had no idea about the job, either. You my dear, have done so much this past year that I bet this setback in your employment status will just make room for something fabulous. I have absolutely no doubt.

Happy 4th !

Oh good grief, everything is happening at once for you – you must be feeling side-swiped by a juggernaut right now. It *will* get better – promise.
All the web stuff? It will eventually fall into place. People who care about Mami and maybe haven't heard from you will check on you and seek you out. You know, anyway, that the web stuff is not an issue in the greater scheme of things.
Hang in there. We're all here for you.
